You sound like very sensible kids. I don't believe you owe anyone an explanation. Your families agree with you, which is nice. The heck with everybody else.

One of my daughters did this years ago. Her fiancee was going to be shipped over seas. They wanted to get married so that if there were any problems she could act for him. If they weren't married, that person would be his mother. They got married in a court house near the base. When he got back from his overseas tour they had a nice ceremony for family and friends to attend.

Just tell people that you decided to have a civil marriage for legal reasons and will have a ceremony to share with friends later. There's no reason to go into detail about the tuition. It's really not their business and anyone who asks about the legal reason is rude. Good luck!

Ok well if you are having a courthouse wedding you are already legally married, so the church service would be a blessing rather than another wedding. Lots of people do that, you aren't the first ones to do that.

Happens all the time. Frequently to get green cards, sometimes to protect the birth date of an early child, sometimes for economic reasons (such as taxes, or what you have indicated). Besides, what do you really care about what others think? Go for it. If you have the support of your family, they're all that really count.

Have one wedding ceremony.

Don't tell them you got married already! Keep it a secret between your lover and yourself and your parents and the financial records. This way, you won't have to deal with people and you'll probably get more gifts! :)
