ignorance and the need to feel superior to other people by trying to degrade them with negative comments and so on

Racism comes from a belief that one race is superior to another. Why would a true racist would be jealous of something he strongly believes is inferior - that makes no sense. Insecure - of what? Hatred creates a strong feeling of "rightness", of being "just" - nope, racists do NOT feel at all insecure. ANYONE who believes their skin color dictates intelligence, entitles them to special any considerations of any kind, gives them the right to judge others based on the past, demands respect or makes allowances to be disrespectful, is STUPID, not ignorant. Ignorance can be changed - STUPID people don't LEARN. Unless anyone has personal experience with larges numbers of a certain race that have repeatedly been extremely negative experiences, choosing judgement for ALL, in spite of a few, is self destructive. Personally, I could care less why or if a racist has "reason" to hate - it's the stupid part ALL people should be concerned with.

Hang on a minute.

Yes, being racist is a bad thing. It goes against God's command to "love one another". If you have to judge people (practically impossible not to judge people), you should take each person as they come, regardless of what colour their skin is.

However! 'Racism' is a term bandied around so liberally that many people use it in the wrong context. Simply by pointing out the characteristics of a race of people, others immediately cry 'racism' when it isn't.

Races have different characteristics, some good and some bad. That's not to say that ALL persons of a particular race have the general trait of that race, just that a lot do, and that's where stereotypes arise from.

e.g. Australian Aboriginals cannot handle alcohol like caucasians can (who have been accustomed to alcohol for centuries). SCIENTIFIC FACT. Not racism. Just like women can't handle alcohol as well as men. That's not sexism, it's fact. But often people who point out differences between races are immediately called racist when it's not the case at all.

We are all different, and that's what's cool about people.

To deny that there are no differences between races and people is ignorant and pandering to political correctness gone mad.

Well, there are no good reasons to hate or disrespect someone, just because they might not look or act or think like you.

What justifications are there for people who are racist? Pretty much as many as there are for negative emotions. Maybe they are jealous of some aspect, usually it's fear that motivates most hate crimes. Fear of someone different taking something that the person thinks is rightfully theirs. Sometimes it's a simple reason like a child being racist because their parents were and they grew up knowing nothing but racism. That's a hard barrier to crack in people.

As for it being pure ignorance, well, that's true to a point.

Anyone who's sole reasoning for someone else being wrong is saying "they are ignorant, they are evil, end of story" is actually just as bad as the original racists, since that's what racists say about the people they hate. It's just ok in our society to hate racists (kinda ironic huh?).

During some periods of history, as recently as a few decades ago, there was an actual science dealing with which races were "better" and should be bred and allowed to reproduce, and which ones weren't. This was called eugenics, and many people smarter then I am actually believed in it. Are they ignorant for doing this, maybe not, more like misguided. They have an incorrect perception of morality in an all inclusive society. They aren't "just stupid", they are immoral.

So hopefully, what this diatribe is trying to say is many people have many justifications for why they are the way they are. None are acceptable for racism, but at the same time, once they reach that point, there is very rarely anything to be done, but hope that the children of that person can be taught to make up their own mind about things someday.

What also doesn't help, is people calling hateful people, by hateful names. What does that solve? It just serves to make the original haters defensive, and does not provide much of an example does it?

Angela: Racism is a trait of human nature. It is the tendency of the natural mind to have or develop within, a "pecking" order. Since two or more races will not exercise the ways nor the means to nurture an atmosphere or enviorment of love and cooperation both, with and for another, war or aggression fills the void and racism is born. Remember; there is a way that SEEMS right to a man [ or woman] but the end thereof, is destruction.

Many racists are most commonly related to having a phobia of anything foreign. When I say foreign, I don't just mean foreigner, from different culture and ethnic background. They tend to try to keep their distance from anything new and different.

Most racism that develops from jealousy is usually portrayed by minority groups. They become very conscious about how the majority may think about them (although the majority might not even be racist toward them, they may feel the pressure due the influence of our society) and this can become a hate.

Most of the racist people today are racist because of the way they were brought up I think. They have no good reason for it. It is closed-mindedness and ignorance that drives their racism.

Jealous of...?? I'm not a racist but i do see a lot of people of a race doing very dumb stuff and acting dumb, i don't really care but i can see how one would get fed up with it. The club usually closes when it gets "darker" inside because someone pulls a knife.

I think that's a good deal of it. But I think sometimes people have a bad experience with someone of a certain race, and then it is repeated. And they don't say, "Oh, I met two a**holes." They think, "Oh, all (race) people are a**holes." And from that point on, they are on the look out -- they are ready to respond when their dealings with (race) go wrong.

I think that's silly, personally. There are good people and bad people in every race, and if we could get all the idiots out there branded on the forehead, then maybe we wouldn't have so much racism. But it's hard not to stereotype people. It's part of human nature. But it's also part of human nature to FIGHT the irrational parts of human nature. The only people who don't have to fight off racism in themselves are people who never meet and never hear of others of another race, IMO.

No One has a good reason for being a racist because God commanded us to Love one another! He didn't say white men Love one another , or black men love one another He simply told us to Love one another......
