By effects I mean like make it into bubbly letters or something awesome for a display project.

You click on "Edit",
then "Select All",
then go click on "Format",
then "Font", and that will bring up all the fonts, colors, and sizes that are available.

a display project would require something much better the formatting provided by microsoft word. there are some really amazing free font downloading websites. try some of those... bet you could find the bubbly dont and all the other types you like

etc.... use a search engine to get more urls

In the menu - Format > Font > Text effects to add simple word effects.
Under fonts same as above u can change the font colour.

go to view -> ToolBars ->drawing.
then u should get a drawing toolbar frm ther u can change the colors ,can give effects.
