I like my youth pastor, but he was saying the other day that with the exception of Ghandi, all the prominent people who have worked for peace like Mother Theresa and Martin Luther King Jr. were Christian. Do you think that's basically true, or is he just a Jesus freak?

Yes, Christianity strongly influences peacemaking. It influences it negatively. Religion will kill us all one day.

Lester B. Pearson won the Nobel peace prize in the '60s for organizing UN peacekeeping. He was a Canadian PM and a Christian. Peacemaking is a long enshrined Christian ideal.

Doesn't the Bible say blessed are the peacemakers?
If you're really interested in this topic you should do a study on the Palestinian Christians living in Israel. They are actually the true "peacemakers" of the region and have acted as buffers and "go betweens" between the Islamic people and the Jewish people since the founding of the country. Blessings to you.

Oh dear...no.
You need to study world history.
Start with the history of North America. Western Europe. Maybe listen to a few pastors who like to demonize non-believers.
NO, no and.. no.
Peace.

Figure out who he considers "prominent" since that's a matter of opinion. What about the Buddha, and Confucious who both started philosophies of non-violence. They affect a huge percentage of the population today. I think your teacher is biased, not purposely, but in who he recognizes. Although I have to say, if one really tries to be like Jesus, that does lead to peace.

He has a strong case. It was the Christian king of the crusaders that offered aid to the starving enemy muslims. Saladin witnessed it and honored the young leper king.
