Why is it that everytime I take a shower, when I come out, dry myself and either go to sleep or get dress. My skin(especially my arms and legs) gets very ashy and dry? It doesn't look and feel comfortable.

What can I do to prevent that? My friends do the same thing, and they don't even put on lotion, yet their skin is smoother and doesn't dry up. I don't take HOT showers, but I don't take cold showers either. I put it in the middle.

I'm a male, 17 years old.

Hey, I'm 23 and have done the same thing since I was 15 or so. It was always uncomfortable and sometimes my face stung it was so dry. To remedy the situation I first switched soap to a "moisturizing" soap and then bought some lotion. Lotion can be bought for pretty cheap at any drug store. Just make sure you get something unscented. As I've been getting older I've been using less and less lotion, and your skin my begin to regulate itself better in the future, too.

According to my dermatologist, the best time to moisturize your skin with lotion is right after you've dried off from the shower. I don't think the temperature of your shower water has anything to do with it.

A wonderful lotion is Cetaphil. It is unscented & soaks in well. A better, more expensive lotion I highly recommend is Eucerin. I love it!

Once you moisturize regularly, you probably won't need to put lotion on every time.

I hope this helps! =)

Your skin, like your hair, has a cuticle layer. When heat is applied, the cuticle layer opens up.
When you shower, start with a warm to hot shower to cleanse your skin, AND your hair! Finish with a conditioning rinse for your hair, and then finish with a cool rinse. This will close the cuticle on your skin AND your hair!
Before you totally dry off, apply some baby oil to your skin, this will trap in moisture to your skin!
