I have asked my wife to walk on my back to maggase and "crack" it, but she thinks she is too heavy. Is it dangerous for a heavier woman to do this? What actual injuries, if any, could occur? What is the maximum "safe" weight of a woman to walk on the back of a 6', 180lb man?

well, it just depends on how much she weighs if it's safe or not. I would think a woman is 2 heavy if she's either weighs more than u or is 180 or more. Sry that's just my opinion.

Too heavy is when it is hard to breath or you hear something "crack" too loudly.
Let her do it with her elbows to be on the safe side..... Firm pressure on each side of the spine will bring alot of relief to a aching back....

my bf is around the same as you, and he always wants me to walk on his back, i hate doing it cause i'm scared i'm gonna hurt him. i weigh 145lbs, but he says it doesn't hurt. i know that you can pop discs in your back from getting a message improperly, that's why you train to be a masseuse and learn how to not do that. i hate doing and every time i do it, i tell him it's the last time, but always end up doing it again. i always step in the middle of his back right on his spine, so i hope i don;t end up hurting him. if i told you it was a bad idea i would be a hypocrite so i don't want to say that, but i have heard that it can cause injuries.
