I would drive if at all possible... they put the dogs in the cargo hold of the plane. I don't know about your dogs, but mine would go completely bonkers and be traumatized if he had to go through that.

Check with the airline to find out the cost of flying with 2 dogs. A great place to go with 2 dogs is on a camping trip or anywhere in the nature

If you go on a plane, I would request, that if they are small enough, please put them in carriers that would fit under the seats up in the cabin with you. If they are not small enough, then driving would be a better option. My family and I when I was a child drove thru several states with a german shepherd in the back seat of our car with us. Just had to stop and let her go potty every few hours, and let her eat and stop to drink water from her water bowl as well. We all did fine. We would try to get her to come into the hotel rooms with us, and if the hotel/motel does not allow pets, she slept in our locked up car for the night. Enjoy! By the way, I understand where you are coming from with them being a part of your family, if you medically need them to accompany you, maybe get a dr's note to have them come with as companions? That would help for traveling with them. Or, is there a neighbor or a friend that could take care of them for you while you are gone? I wish you the best. Take care.
