YEAH! He lives in a lighthouse. Which is why I encouraged asking me yes or no questions. Like, you could ask... "Does the light necessarily lead to the bathroom?" see.. I never actually said the light was from the bathroom. He lives in a lighthouse.. turned out the light, and a boat crashed killing masses of people. The guilt killed him. Good job you guys!

I mean, with the few details you gave, it could also be:
The man was Hitler near the end of World War II. The Germans had been defeated on both fronts, and Berlin was under siege from both east and west. On the verge of a nervous breakdown, he found it difficult to sleep, and got up to use the restroom, turning out the light after he was done.
The bombing continued through the night, and he slept uneasily, waking up frequently to check the situation outside. Finally, he could no longer stand it, and made plans for his suicide. Although he wanted to carry it out immediately, he was persuaded to hold off until the morning, when he might be in a sounder state of mind.
He woke up the next day, and looking out the window, he saw the ruins of the city, and the tanks approaching his living quarters. His guards were already being arrested or killed. Seeing that the end was imminent, he was devastated, and shot himself to end his life.

The only thing I can think of is that you're speaking of more than one man. One was going to bed,(man 1) while the other one was turning out a light and going to bed (man 2). I'm trying to figure out the rest. I'll submit an edit soon.
One other thought.....perhaps the man that was about to go to bed was an author writing a book, and the character killed himself because that's what the author chose.

yeah......he was a watchman in the lighthouse....
He went to bathroom and by mistake switched off the main lights which used to give direction to the ships.
Morning when he got up and saw outside,he found a shipwreck.

He didn't look out the window. He looked in the mirror, Since he slept in the bathroom, thought he was looking out the window, saw his reflection, it made him go crazy, so he shot himself.
