Would you walk to the bar? People are SUPPOSED to use good judgment when going to the bar. This includes having a designated driver. Another option is not getting sh*tfaced. Yes, I know, personal responsibility is not "in" right now, but this is a free market society and I don't think a bar would get any business if they didn't provide parking spaces.

It is not illegal to drink and drive. It is only illegal if you drive impaired. Everyone's tolerance is different. Many places that serve alcohol also serve food, and even allow children up until a certain hour. What I find amusing is the drive in liquor store that is found in Louisiana and a few other states. What a concept. That has always amazed me that you can buy alcohol at a drive through liquor store. Someone with a breathalizer device doesn't have to turn off his engine and restart the car. Seems like a loophole. Bars and other establishments that serve alcohol have parking lots because it is legal to drive to and from them. It is only a few who abuse the privilege. Why should the majority who don't over indulge be penalized?

As most said its not illegal to drink, only if you would test legally impaired. What is funny though (even taking into weight and size of a person) it only takes a very few drinks to register on the meter. MS has lowered the level to be convicted of DUI so means even fewer drinks allowed. So you sit in a bar a few hours, you know you will drink more than one drink...or two (course NO one when arrested ever admits to over "2 beers") thus they are DUI. The parking lots I would hope is for them to sit out there in until they sober up.
PS: while in the bar just be sure you don't smoke though for that is illegal now in many towns and cities.

Drinking and driving aren't against the law. Driving While Intoxicated is.

But the big reason bars have parking lots is so the patrons have someplace to throw up in.

Actually there are tons of bars without parking lots. But I'll go ahead and give a full answer. Well lets just pretend you have friends. You and your friends could all go to a bar. You park in the parking lot. One of your friends could stay sober aaaall night. You could all walk out to his car(parked in the parking lot of course) and he could drive you all home.

Let me ask you this? Why do they sell beer at Gas Stations with the mini marts? There must be a lot of designated drivers.

Just because a person patronizes a bar doesn't mean they are going to get falling down drunk!

The cops need a place to stake out. The minute you leave a bar around here, a cop "magically" appears to harass you.
