My step-son is only 4 years old, but he has terrible body odor if we don't put deodorant on him. He doesn't have the typical little kid dirty smell, it's major body odor, like a teenager that hasn't started wearing deodorant yet. Could this be a thyroid problem? He also is very hyperactive and won't eat if we don't make him. Has anyone else heard about the b.o problem in a kid before?

We haven't discussed it with the doctor yet. He has an appointment for next week. I was just trying to see if anyone else has any idea what it could be.

There is a variety of things that could cause what you are describing. My son has never had this, but a nephew has. My brother and sister in law tried many things to stop this. They changed his diet to a more natural diet free of dyes, chemicals etc. They also added elements to his diet that would eliminate any toxins. They tried bathing him twice a day with just about every soap known to man to no effect. They tried a variety of prescribed and natural medicines to free up his lymphatic system. Nothing was working. Turns out it was a parasite causing the odor. As always though, get in front of a doctor as a computer can't diagnose this properly.

The only thing that I can think of that would cause body odor in a child is a clogged lymph system. I would try to put warm compresses on the arm pits and encourage him to do a lot of bouncing - that helps the lymph circulate. Make sure you are using all natural deodorant and maybe consider changing his diet to be more alkaline (mostly veggies) for a while.

Peace!

not normal, try having him bathe with antibacterial soap. is he on medication? if so ask the pharmacy and the doctor who put him on the medication if this is a side affect or something else going wrong.either way ask one or both about the b.o. problem and for any tips to descent him. no pun intended.
