THANK YOU for your desire to serve your country! As for being a Marine, it will be an experience that will change you forever. Make sure you write home to your mom during boot camp, and tell her to keep all the letters in a scrap book.. year's from now, you'll be able to look back through those letters and watch yourself grow up all over again.
I recommend you take a career guidance class at your local community/junior college... they're usually about 6-8 weeks long and will give you some great ideas for what careers you are best suited for. That way, once you take the ASVAB you'll be able to know what MOS designations are available to you that fit into the job areas you're best suited for. (Some of the MOS's have minimum ASVAB score requirements...) Make sense?
I highly discourage potential recruits to sign an open contract. Make sure you pick an MOS (That's Military Occupational Specialty) that you're well suited for, and the Marines will handle the schooling and training for you.
For the BEST USMC source online, check out http://www.marineparents.com
The folks there are a wealth of information, and it'll be a life saver for your family while you're in boot and later on deployed.
uuUUUuu-RAH!!
Oh... and by the way... the word "Marine" is always capitalized... ALWAYS... :)

We do not promise you a rose garden. If you want to fight, join the Marines. It will be hard, the living conditions are the worst of all services. I loved every minute of it and wish I was still there.

Having the title "Marine" is a major accomplishment by itself. But to face up to that challenge and conquering it is very rewarding. Many have tried to become one but only a few become one; to be a part of an elite force is kick@ss. To be a part of an elite unit in an elite force is even better!!!
