Most cats that are indoor/outdoor cats go outside naturally but if they are still using the litter box while they are inside then you could start by moving the litter box to an area by the door. Disinfect and deodourise where the box used to be or they will keep going in that spot regardless of where the litter is. Make sure you show them where the box is and keep an eye on hem to make sure they don't have any accidents. After a while, move the box to just outside the door. Once they get used to having to go outside you should be able to take the box away completely and they will soon just ask to be let outside to go to the toilet.
Usually people don't need to use this technique as cats just naturally progress to toileting outside as it also marks their territory but if your cats are grown this may help. You'll more than likely find that they will adapt quickly as they probably already do go outside, they will just make it their normal spot instead of having the litter box available.

Good Luck.

I have not done this, but I too have indoor and outdoor cats. I guess you could try and put an additional litter box outside in addition to the one inside, then move the other one outside after awhile as well. But they like to scratch in sandy earth so unless you have that it will be hard. If you have small children in the area its probably not a good idea. I understand cat litter is very toxic to pregnant women and not good for children for other reasons that I can't remember.

if the cats are old enough just put the litter box close to your front door or wherever the cats go out the most then in a few days move it out to the front porch........then out into the yard as long as it isnt raining.......they will catch on eventually. My cat was always an indoor outdoor cat and she had a litter box all the time but she rarely used it unless she was stuck in the house for more than a few hours...........now she only uses it if we go on vacation. Cats are super smart..........they just like to act dumb sometimes. They will learn soon enough! Good luck!

WE had 4 cats at one time that went in and out whenever they wanted to thru their cat/dog door. We never had a litter box. Now I have 2 cats that are brothers and even tho they are in and out all day (not night) they always come in to use their litter box. Any suggestions to get rid of it

I really don't recommend your two cats remain indoor/outdoor cats. There are so many predators out there for cats. It has been proven that indoor cats live more than double that of an outdoor cat.
