I can wake up for school on M,W,F... but when i'm allowed to sleep on my days off, i sleep about 12 hours on average. I get enough sleep on the nights that i have school, so why do i sleep excessively on the other nights?

Twelve hours of sleep can be normal. Teens, even adult teens such as yourself, need the most sleep. Often stress from school can cause one to need sleep more often. You might try changing your sleeping habits so that you get better sleep instead of more sleep. If it takes you a long time to fall asleep or if you wake up several times during the night then you may not be getting the type of sleep you need. Extra sleep can simply be a physical response to your lifestyle. It can also be normal for someone your age. As long as it is not affecting your life in a negative way it is nothing to worry about.

at your age you are still developing in many ways. Second some people need more sleep and some need less.. Best way to tell... if you feel rested and healthy then you get enough.
Even if it is 12 hours on some days. The average person should have 8-9 per night.

go with what works

See, I'm 19 too and I feel like sleeping a ton as well (except I can't cuz of school most of the time). Most of my friends are the same way, so I think its something about our age. It could also be due to stress or something.

I have the same problem. I've always attributed it to the fact that some people just require more sleep than others. You're probably catching up on the sleep deficit that you don't know is incurred getting up for school.

You could be sleeping because you don't have enough to keep you interested. As you can get up when you need to go to school it doesn't sound as if you really need this "extra" sleep. You need to find something to keep you busy and happy on your days off.

Please let me know your secret, I have leukemia and can never get enough sleep. I can't even get in a nap in the afternoons because I take med. to make me sleep due to Meniere's Syndrome in both ears which cause alot of ringing and roaring in my ears. I go to bed tired and get up tired, but I'm 51. I guess you sleep longer on your days off from school you are just tired and you body knows that it doesn't need to get up at a certain time.

Don't worry. It happens. It just a problem of habit. Watch what you eat and be more active. Exercise more. Do you have a girlfriend? Do something with her! If not - get yourself a girlfriend FAST!
