Here's the deal, I'm 16(about to turn 17 in August) I'm a Junior in Highschool(only one more year left) and I weight 325lbs. I'm not afraid to admit about my weight. Ok, everytime I go shopping with my mother(She does all the Food Shopping) I take a cart and she takes a cart so she'll tell the cashier to scan my items first and when the total is done my food alone is between $60-$70 a month. So, My mom is always yelling at me. I don't eat with my family at all. And here's the catch. All the food I have in my cart is all healthy. Not one items is Junk or Bad Food. So, she said from now on, I'm only allowed $50 for "Healthy Food" a month. How can I live off $50?

This is what I eat everyday.

Breakfast:Whole Grain Cereal w/ Low fat Milk or Oatmeal no sugar. Apple Slices

Lunch:Whole Grain Sandwich, Veggie Sticks(Carrots and Celery), Yogurt

Dinner:A salad(I use Plenty of Veggies w/ little dressing. Apple Slices

And I eat no snacks in between. Sometimes I'll get a handful of almonds. But that's it. And I've been eating this way since last month. And I've lost 10lbs. So far. So how does she expect me to live off $50 for food?

I walk every moring before school. I wake up at 4am and do my indoor walking. 4-Miles or 3-Miles everyday. And I drink lots and lots of water

The reason why is because she's teaching me how to conserve instead of picking up the highest thing on the shelf.

Use manufactures cents off coupons on cereals and any items you can. You can drink lots and lots of water and that will help you loose weight, give up even diet soft drinks, eat lots of raw vegetables and fruits. Give up breads and only eat 6 saltine crackers a day. Eat yogart and cottage cheese, salads if you can. Why doesn't your mother try to fix some healthy fat free foods for the whole family???? A salad with grilled chicken breasts, boiled eggs, alittle fat free cheese is a great filling meal.

pretty tuff when that breaks down to a little less than 2 bucks a day... Id say try getting a part time job and kicking in some, if money is the real issue. If its not than find what actually works no matter the cost... just because you spend less money for something doent mean that its the answer.

Currently my son age 18 is about 210 down from 235. He has been on one of those diets where you go into ketosis... eating little and/or next to no carbs. He eats chicken on a regular basis and I try to mix it up a bit buy making different recepies... tha latest was a chicken adobo that wasnt a big hit account of all the vinegar kinda gets to you after one piece =p

Just like any diet a doctor would be the best one to consult instead of random opinions off the internet. Id also say that a strong will has to be in order for my wife did the carb-less diet as well and lost a lot, only to become a mother for a second time and change eating habits for the health of our, now almost2 year old, son.

My wife and son lost alot of weight and had no restrictions on the ammount that they eat... meat, eggs nuts and such to thier hearts content. I cant say that I would like chicken much myself after eating it 5 days in a row LOL But I guess I have a high metabolism, sometimes you just gotta work with what you have. I dont eat every healthy myself but thats account of my weak mind, if I cant have both I might as well be happy =)

I think your mother is trying to help you with your weight issue. Maybe she's going about it the wrong way but that seems to be the case. You can't live healthy on just $50/month for food. Food isn't the only issue here either. You need to change you whole lifestyle if you want to make a difference in your health. If your going to put yourself on a diet and exercise you should first talk to your doctor for his/her advice on both. I say "Go for it!".

I feel bad for you, thats horrible that she tells you to live off $50 worth of food a month!! my son goes thru that in a week, and he is 4, and i never, ever tell him he can't have it ( unless its not the day to go grocery shopping, but then i buy it later for him).

Seriously, you are still a minor, and she has to provide you with food. IF it creates that much of a problem, I would go andtalk to you school councelor, tell her that you want to be healthy and your mom only allows $50 a month , stress MONTH, for YOUR FOOD.

I would also ask your mom to buy a meal for the family to eat, once a week that is healthy, so you can sneak your 'family time' in and she pays for it at the same time.

SHAME ON HER, BAD MOMMY!!!!

Its not wether the food is healthy or not, if u eat 10 lbs of apples u will gain weight, so I would say eat less food. I can eat a toaster strudel in the morning and go till supper, and eat a plate of spaghetti, I maintain 260. I am naturally heavy, not that I eat that much. U can eat pizza, burgers and what not, remember in the 50's most everyone was thin, well if u go to Burger King and get a cheese burger and a small fry, and a small drink those were good portions back then, now u go to BK and get a Quad bacon cheeseburger and have it supersized, that is why the American population, is obese.

Try the Atkins diet. At age 16 and being 325lbs you will allmost definitely die young or be plagued with health problems. I think your mom shouldn't try to control your weight with the amount of money you're allowed to spend at the grocery store, but instead focus on a medically proven diet. The Atkins is a good diet for people who are dedicated to loose weight and like meats and vegetables. Find a well established diet that fits your likes and lifestyle.

That is definitely not possible and I do not think she mean it. YOu are still under her protection by law but you can eat healthy with even small budget. Buy lots of 0%milk,eggs,fibers adn do not buy any fast food from out side. Those foods cost too much for you adn they are high in fat and sodium. I never eat any fast food or out side food and am in excellent shape. Exercises helps a lot too, just stay active

You should eat with your family. Try to coax Mom into getting more healthy food for the whole family. Help her to plan a menu that includes family favorites. You eat a little of theirs and lots of yours. Work together and everyone can be happier and healthier.
