Your eyes are playing tricks on you. It's like getting a spot in your eyes after the flash goes off on a camera, except you're reading a newspaper and the contrast between black & white creates a "burned" image in your retina. Take a look at the optical illusion at the link below.

This is completely normal. You have rods and cones in your retinas that create the image of what you are looking at. Cones are what differentiates the colors that you are looking at. Rods determine how light or dark an image is. How our eyes process images is very simlar to taking a picture with film. If your familiar with the process of developing film you know that an image is taken in a negative form then developed into the positive image that we put into frames. it's the same with our eyes. White is black, blue is yellow and every color is it's opposite on the color wheel. WHen you look at an image of say newsprint, you're looking at a mostly white or light colored background with dark print in a uniform, lined pattern. After a while of looking at this your eyes become accustomed to it and when you look away the negative image is in view for a short while. Since you are looking at many different words of print you probably cant make out a single clear word of text. However if you were to stare at only one word of text for about 15 seconds and then close your eyes. The image you should see is a black background with whatever the word was in white.

You might have cataracts you need to see an eye doctor. I have three blurry spots in my eye that they say ape pressure behind my eye that cant be corrected. Spots can become bigger if not seen by a professional. I know you don't want to become blind before you get to a doctor so find one now. Oh and cataracts are a disability.
