get a chilton manual for your car. it will show you how to replace the pump, and it will also show you how to check the timimng belt and also how to replace it if needed. the book is about 20 bucks, but will save 100 time that compared to a repair shop

Well, I'm not as much of a smarta-- as john m was, but I'll be honest with you. Replacing items such as water pumps, alternators, and just about anything else that you used to find on the front of a forward-facing engine has become very difficult for the backyard mechanic to handle himself.

Don't get me wrong, it can be done, but in lot of cases the job will require expensive special tools that you probably won't have in your tool box. You can also expect to lose a fair amount of blood due to sharp surfaces in tight quarters.

Save your sanity. Take the car to a mechanic. You can tell his front-wheel drive experience by the number of scars on his hands.

bring the tool box closer to the vehicle,
un lock it.
see inside the tool box(sort of, like looking for the right wrench)
grab the wrench with the right hand.
walk to the vehicle.
look under the hood(to locate the waterpump)
hit the pump with the wrench until it fall in the floor.
install the new pump in the nearest garage and pay the mechanic.

man!!! if You don't know how to change a water pump, don't mess with the timing. the mechanic will punch You in Your mouth
