i have mono, and before i ever deleveloped symptoms i had a very enlarged lymph node in my neck, which is what brought me to the doctor. 2 weeks later (the 21st of of march) i was diagnosed with mono, which he said caused the swollen lymph node.

well today, i noticed a new swollen lymph node on the opposite side of my head behind my ear. is it usual that another one just comes up like that even though ive been sick for awhile?

thank you

First you don't have lymph nodes behind your ear. The ones on your neck are located to the left and right of your larynx, just under the bend of your jaw bone and a little to the front. You also have one in each underarm and one on each side of your upper pubic area very near where the femoral arteries are. There are others, but I'm not going into that.

Typically with Mono your lymph nodes are going to swell up as a result of the infection. Sometimes they don't. They will always be tender. So feel around your body at the spots I've mentioned. When you feel a soreness that's where your nodes are.

There is no rhyme or reason to when/if they will swell up, or how long they may remain swelled. So the situation you described is normal.

However the location of the new "node" is suspect. Feel it to see if it's tender then as always, go to your doctor as a computer can't diagnose or treat any illness.

I had mono it took me six weeks to get rid of it. By the way swollen glands is very common and once Mono is in your system you will always have it. If can flare up at different times in you life and you will always test positive for the antibodies. Just get as much rest as possible you will feel better sooner or later. Dont kiss anyone..ha ha!

a swollen lymph node just means that you have an infection of some sort sometimes so minor you don't even know it a lymph node holds white blood cells and that is what is used to fight infection and that is why the lymph node swells when you have an infection because your wbc's mutiply

If that node behind the ear isn't usually large, then the mono is probably causing that gland to be swollen as well.

Behind my ear that gland is always swollen, only because I wear earings that irritate my skin.
