Im going into the Air Force in October and I wanted to know about Security Forces as a possibility. I want to know about what different specialties I can go into, and anything that would help from anybody who has done it before. Thanks.

In the USAF It's divided into two fields Security Police and Law Enforcement.

Security Police guards the planes and the Weapon storage areas. You'll do alot of walking around airplanes. Lonely boring job.

Law Enforcement is exactly what it says. You man the gates at the entry point of the base and you patrol the base in patrol cars. Same as any city policeman.

Get your recruiter to give you a written guarantee of your job. He will try to talk you into going in as an open general career field. Don't do it. that means they put you where ever they want. YOU LOSE.

He will fast talk you and convince you into all the reasons why you should listen to him. its all a sales pitch. he's trying to meet his quota. you will lose. get the guaranteed job. in writing. you might have to wait a little longer for a school date and you might have to sign up for 6 years instead of 4 years but its the only way to not get stuck in something you don't want.

open general guys get put in all the left-over jobs... Security, cooks, supply, transportation, etc.

I fell for the bull of my recruiter. did my first 4 yrs as security. re-enlisted as Law enforcement the second time around.

did 20 years in the USAF. retired a long time ago.

go for it. its a great career. you will love it. but don't fall for the recruiters tricks. stay alert and if it sounds too good to be true... it probably is.

I'm currently in the Navy and have been through the security training and done the job of an MP for several months.

It is probably the most boring job in the military, in the Air Force you are going to guard a Base "which is very boring" or guard a plane "which is boring but you get to travel with the plane." You will be sick of this job, it has very little sense of accomplishment and the only cool thing is you'll get a gun "which you will never use."

But on the up side the Air Force treats there people very well and the facilities you stay in are better than any other branches. You made the right choice with going Air Force but you might want to consider a job that will give you a marketable skill.

anything is possible BUT it all depends on how high you scored on you pre-military testing, your level of EDUCATION.whether you have a degree or not, your aptitude level on those tests AND whether you can get a CONGRESSMAN or preferably STATE SENATOR where you live to give you a recommendation into a specific field. If you have signed up already in the delayed entry program the AIR FORCE will honor the contract that you signed up for specifying that field that you chose.A call to those political offices for a recommendation can't hurt either.GOOD LUCK! Thank you for serving our country as well.
