Honor your lost pet by going to your local animal shelter and adopting a shelter cat who otherwise may be euthanized. Knowing that your beloved cat passed on to allow an otherwise homeless cat to have a loving home would be a great way to ease your grieving. It will fill the void and help a cat.

I'm very sorry about your loss. It is so difficult to lose close animal friends. I've loved a lot of animals over the years and it's never easy when their lives are over.

This sounds strange, but I think it's helpful to get another pet. I know a lot of people will say you should wait, but my view is that while no new pet can take the place of the old pet, the new pet can help you create a new relationship and new experiences that will make getting past your old friend easier. (It's not the only way, of course, but it's how I prefer to do it.) There are many animals in shelters that need homes right now. This is kitten season (spring) so there are many kittens that are waiting for someone to take them home.

I also have a practice of planting something in my garden to honor my pets when they pass away. I like the idea of making something grow in their memory.

I'm sorry for what you're going through.

Like with any loss, nothing is ever going to heal it. The best you can do is try to remember how much you loved him and be grateful for the time you did have. I wouldn't reccommend getting another animal straight away as i believe animals suffer in relationships with people who buy them as replacement pets and never get the full amount of love and attention they deserve because the owner is always comparing them to the last pet they had. My advice is take it one day at a time and when you're ready to love another cat like you loved Churby Dean then you should look at getting another one.

I think the hardest part of loosing a pet is that usually their the only one's who were really there for you through everything, no matter what. You just don't get that with people.
I'm sorry for your loss.

Good Luck.

I know it is real difficult-I just lost my cat of 5 years. All I can do now is look back on the good times we had together and be thankful he was here at all. Some people say that I should get another cat right away-I don't want to, but it may work for you.

I am very sorry to hear that, I myself am a cat owner. Just try to relax. Think about all the good times and know that Churby Dean is in a better place no longer suffering.

I'm sorry..... i know how you fell and i think when i lose my cat sunny i will be quite devastated but likely i have enough money to get the medicines aand special food he needs and the surgery. my cat was never that healthy for when he was a kitten but that still hasent kept me form being his best friend.

just think of all the good times you had with him. and if you fell better you could maby still put out a water bowl or food bowl for him. i still belive that pased away pets watch over you. im even geting sad right now thinking about this subject. if you have photos of him maby make a litle memorial box. put his id tag or pictures in there maby a favorite toy or a water or food bowl or anything that reminds you of him that way you could always open it and remeber him.

aww..I'm sorry to hear that, a pet is certainly a member of a family and a friend..I always feel better when reading this:

THE RAINBOW BRIDGE

Anyone who has ever had a pet to love and care for understands how sad it is to say goodbye

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here on earth, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water, and sunshine and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who have been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; his eager body begins to quiver. Suddenly, he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together...
