My cat/kitten is about 9 months old. Lately he has been sneaking outside whenever anyone opens the front door. Also about a week ago he started tryin to bite anyone who walks in front of him on their ankles. I want him to know that this is bad, but how do I go about disciplining him?

Use positive reinforcement and train him to do what you want him to do instead. When you punish behavior your animal doesn't learn what you WANT him to do, and usually will figure out something else to do on his own that will not necessarily be what you like. There is a discussion group online that can guide you through how to train your cat.

HEre's a website with some interesting info on training cats (YES! They can be trained!) http://cats.about.com/od/clickertraining/Clicker_Training_Cats_for_Fun_and_Safety.htm

Your cat is bored.
Thats why he's trying to get outside and it's why he's trying to play with people who are walking in front of him. Spraying him when he goes for your feet will only teach him to avoid you because to him it's just play and he won't understand what he's doing that merits a spray in the face. Instead of trying to punish him for something that he thinks is natural, direct his attention in other directions, mainly away from your feet.
If you want to fix the problem then try buying him brightly coloured toys to play with. Stuffed toys that he can bite into and wrestle with are the best way to go as well as a ball he can push around. You can buy plastic balls now that when your animal plays with them, if they roll it the right way, food falls out. It's a great idea and an excellent way of teaching your animal which toys he can play with for maximum fun and treats. Give him plenty of toys that are going to make him active around the house, give him a wide variety of things to do and think about and he should stop trying to escape and stop trying to hunt people.

Good luck.

Do something that irritates the cat RIGHT AS THE DIRTY DEED IS HAPPENING... Some things that will irritate are spraying it with water (you may have to walk around the house all day with a spray bottle).... making a screeching noise or hissing noise of another cat....

or you could just throw a shoe at it.... pillows generally work better though :P
