It is three or four weeks since my hair was permed and it still smells awful; especially when it's wet. It smells as though it has been burned. The stylist ran out of perm solution while applying it to my hair.(My hair is short, above the shoulder) She left the store and went down the mall to another salon to get more, leaving me with only part of my hair soaked in perm solution. In hindsight, I don't remember her using a neutralizer, nor did she rinse the hair very long.

Apart from the terrible smell, the perm is limp and slightly frizzy. How do I treat my hair while this is growing out?

I am new to the small city that I live in. Finding a talented stylist with good technique isn't easy. I don't want this to happen to me again. Any advice?

Yes go back to the salon...ask for the manager...get them to refund your money...find another salon (ask someone who has hair that looks great, thats how I do it...) and have them look at your hair...in the mean time try some warm oil, olive or mineral...or smear mayo on it..(yes you'll smell like a salad, but it will take the smell out of your hair and help keep it from getting more frizzy.) use a VERY mild shampoo and a really heavy conditioner...
The salon/person who did this should be reported to the BBB.

The curl would fall out if it hadn't been neutralized. And the smell is probably just the typical ammonia smell you get with perms. Some are worse than others and mixing something with the one she used could have made matters worse yet. Esp. if one perm was acid and one was alkaline (hardly ever used anymore alkalines.) There isn't much you can do to get rid of the smell. I always had the smell for a long time when I got one too. What you CAN do is go back, tell her the troubles and ask her to fix it. She owes you that much if it is frizzy and limp. She will probably have to trim the layers to allow the hair to spring up. Good luck. Find a good stylist by asking around for references from people who get perms that you admire. Then get that stylist.

Look for a salon that carries Redken's "Chemistry system". It's an excellent deep conditioner mixed for your needs. I would mix "extreme with a little smooth down". Follow up with another treatment in 2 weeks. Your stylist may suggest re-perming or straighting when your hair is ready, if the curl is unmanageable or not uniform. Again, follow up with Chemistry to maintain your hair's integrity.

Good luck

The smell comes from not properly rinsing out the solution. There may not be enough to break you hair off or anything like that. But they teach us proper rinsing techniques at the schools. They take forever, we usually rinse no less than five minutes after each step. It may take forever but the client wont walk out smelling like perm solution.

Don't get your hair perm again! It is no good. Let it grow out and cut your every now and then so that in a little while all you are left with is your natural "virgin" hair. Now, until then you must find a good hydrating shampoo and conditioner set that will keep your hair from getting worse or falling out. Hope my answer helps you.

you aren't from now on assume to bathe it for twenty-four hours, besides the indisputable fact that that is totally almost that now so that you may free a number of the curl in case you wash it now yet no longer a lot. if that is bothering you positioned a fan on and blow the fragrance faraway from you till 4pm.
