My head throbs constantly and feels like there is pressure there when I touch my head. Lots of the time it hurts to the touch over the place where I get my headeaches (which is in the back of my head.) I get dizzy when I stand up and sometimes I can't hear very well in one ear. I'm afraid but my general practitioner keeps telling me I'm dehydrated. What do I do? Is this really bad?

Dehydration is a problem which, to some extent can be treated by you yourself. Make sure you get yourself plenty of water at regular intervals - A glass every two hours regularly should be good enough - but you will have to be disciplined about it.

Your symptoms seem to quite severe and painful - so just the dehydration part may not work. Is it a constant and continous headache you are facing? Or is it one which keeps occurring on a regular frequency? If it is the latter , the time and tested method is keeping a headache diary. Each time a headache triggers off, note down the food you took just before it started, the environment(if unusual) that you were in, mental state(stress?), and any drugs you may have taken for other purposes just earlier. It will not produce a quick result , but over time, you will be able to nail down your headache triggers, and adress them directly.

Headaches, for me, are the worst body pain. I sincerely hope and pray you are relieved of your problem.

Well up to this point an expert could only narrow it down to
18 possibilities. Most are benign, but more info is needed. Neuro cases are best left for neurologists. So i definetly recommend going to see one very soon, especially if there is a risk of being serious. That aside, make a note of specifics, patterns & unique symptoms to look for & relay to any doc:
(Just a brief list of some things to look for: )

1.) new onset or have you had this pattern before?
2.) any specific triggers (food,meds,alcohol,taxes)?
3.) family history of migraines?
4.) one side or both sides of the head?
5.) does it wake you from sleep?
6.) do you have Very Low or High blood pressure?
7.) Fever...could indicate meningitis or sinus infection?
8.) any nausea/vomiting or blackouts?
9.) Ringing in the ears or just hearing loss?
10.) Can't hear well in one ear..is this new? (like 2 days?)
***If so, Stop reading this & go to an E.R.,
"do not pass go," "do not collect $200..." ***

A general practitioner is just that, general.....
So a neurologist would be more qualified here. Good Luck!

First, you probably are dehydrated. 90% of us are. Drinking water will help, but not stop the headaches. What you should do is get some magnesium and start taking it daily. It will replenish what your body is desperately missing. Eventually, the headaches will vanish. For now, use an ice pack and some tea tree oil or oil of lavender (rub on the spot that is throbbing). I used to suffer from migraines all the time in college and when I started this regimen, I get one migraine a year now, and before it was one every week. Hang in there, it will work for you. Get better soon.

If food or water don't help it, I would get a second opinion, maybe even a third, just to be on the safe side.

Headache with dizziness could well be dehydration I'm sure, or low sugar, but the part about your hearing...I'm no doctor or medial anything, but I've never heard of that as a symptom for basic dehydration...
