I am trying to figure out my own diet plan and came up with a question I can't answer.

If an obese man and an normal range weight man were both left in a room with only water, who would live the longest?

The reason i ask is I have heard fat is stored energy but I dont believe it is usuable energy. I think the obese man would expire first because his body doesnt have all the nutrients it needs.
Any input for anyone?

If a very fat man in poor health and a normal man in good health be shut up together and condemned to die of starvation, you would think that the fat man ought to diminish in weight much more slowly, and to live considerably longer than the lean man; but this is untrue. The lean man will lose in weight much more slowly, and live several days longer than the fat man, in spite of all the nourishment which the fat man may derive from his fat deposits.

The explanation offered is that, while the fat person has a large store of fat on his frame, he is deficient in other food requisites. Fatty tissue is invariably deficient tissue. Lean mass such as muscle is very efficient tissue, therefore prolonging the normal man's life.

"Feed a dog on butter, starch, or sugar alone, and you will save in him the consumption of fat, but the dog will die of starvation. He will be plump, round, embonpoint, and yet die of inanition." - Alcoholic Controversy, pp. 148-149

I think the thin man would die first because the fat man would kill him and eat him, Now if they where alone with only water I would say the thin man because muscle goes before fat and a fat man would all ready be unhealthy. I don't know if I know any over weight people that are not on medication.

The skinny guy wouldnt last. Of course stored fat is usable energy - What do you think fuels long endurance events when glucose stores are depleted!
