Depends what your interests are and were in California are you. It is a little complicated to answer your question without knowing this information. There are a lot of Russians living all over CA. They are mostly organized through the churches.

do an internet search for Russian Orthodox Churches in your area of California. Start going to Church at the closest one.
There will be nice Christian Russian people for you to make friends with.
