I've heard that from my boyfriend, so I'm not entirely sure I see this as a "woman thing," but I'll go with it. I can only tell you about me personally.

First, I would never use that in an argument because it's snotty and combative. The only time I would is if I were A. actually asking for my boyfriend's opinion or B. in a casual, joking mood.

Second, that's not really the same as suit measurements because in that setting you aren't seeking a yes or a no. You're seeking numbers.

Finally, I think any time that comment is made snidely you have every right to be annoyed. If someone mistreats you that way often, perhaps you should consider being with a woman who has manners, intelligence, and a bit more class.

We are taught to speak this way from a young age. Its a cultural, and its not intentionally done. Its the same reason a lot of women state facts, but still say, 'I think' or 'we think' like its an opinion. A lot of women are passed up for promotions because of weak language. We are taught to communicate through emotions, and to avoid damaging the delicate male ego.

ex:

I would really appreciate it if youd work on those resports

as opposed to

Those reports need to get done.

It invalidates us.

Well for me when I ask someone "what do you think" after they just asked me a question, I just say it to be sarcastic. It like why ask me a question when I know that you know the answer already

YES or NO!

how fukcing hard is that?!

any other answer..... when someone is expecting a yes or no...... is just plain retarded.

why would u compare yes or no..... to guess???? sounds like you just need to think about the question a little harder......and answer it truthfully.....someone wouldn't be asking a yes or no question if they weren't looking for a yes or no answer.

You answer a question with a question when you don't think they deserve an answer. Possibly it's none of their business.

What is the question that you need an answer to? I can say yes or no.

"They're being evasive", said captain obvious.
Try using the comeback, "I think you're avoiding the question".
