Do some research on petit mal seizures also known as Absence seizures. My husband had these growing up - they are uncommon after 21 and he no longer suffers from them. They are basically as you described a seizure in the brain that does not cause convulsions but an absence of mind; a staring spell but you can't snap out of it. These type are very difficult come school time and she may need special attention. Sometimes the person has one and doesn't really notice it (except maybe feeling tired or a headache), but anyway they may hear part of a lesson zone out and completely miss the middle. If the teacher or child doesn't notice it, it can lead to major gaps in education or lead the teacher to believe that the student is a bad student who is just daydreaming. My husband was monitored and medicated for his which helped but didn't cure them. His triggers were amount of sleep and eating. If he skipped a meal or got too little sleep he was more prone to them. Some people have specific foods that can trigger them. You need to find a doctor that specializes in seizures. If your doctor is not being any help go to a local children's hospital and seek a referral from them. Advice from a dietician may be beneficial as well. Good luck, I know how difficult it is to see your child suffer. I saw my oldest's first seizure at 20 months. She has convulsions though. Luckily they are only febrile and she seems to have outgrown them.

It does sound like seizures. I had complex partial and petit mal seizures until puberty and it was well controlled until then. The proper doctor is a neurologist. They specialize in the nervous system. The usual test is a EEG or a CT scan. It wasn't too bad growing up, but I did miss a lot from blanking out during school.

Maybe she has some form of narcolepsy. Some people who have narcolepsy dont even go to sleep, they just lose control of their muscles and fall on the floor and cant move. And usually it lasts for a couple minutes. Keep seeing doctors until you find an answer. Your daughters health is important and you'll want to make sure it's not serious and if there's anything you can do for her.

My mother has seizures and they are scary. That does defintly sound like a seizure. Keep a very close eye on her. And it continues find you another doctor. Also keep a journal so you can log the time she had it and the time she came out of it and how she acted. Sometimes this info helps.

I'm sorry for your litte girl. Those things are scary. My mother had one for the first time in 21 years acouple weeks ago.

Take this child to a specialist! What kind of doctor says he doesn't know then just stops trying to find out? This is not the kind of physician I would want treating MY child. Find someone who specializes in childhood diseases - or even better - if there is a St. Judes or other children's hospital near where you live, take them there. Obviously this is worrying you enough to ask so do what it takes to help your child get better! Good luck!

What do you mean he doesn't know? There are tests that can be done to identify seizures--namely an MRI and an EEG. I suggest you find your daughter another doctor to get a second opinion and have some testing done...

It sounds as if she may have epilepsy, which needs to be seen to as soon as possible.

I suggest you take her to see a paediatrician, as soon as you can for a full assessment, he/she will properly send your daughter off to an Epileptic clinic, and they will do a EEG (electroencephalogram) of her brain.

If she does have epilepsy then research as much info as you can, ask lots of questions about drug therapy etc.

Good luck and take care.

Go to another doctor, if he doesn't answer, go to another one until you get an answer. I don't know what it is but I wouldn't stop trying to find out, it sounds very serious.
