This is a female that is spayed. She doesnt always urinate in the corner, sometimes she goes in her litter box. When she does go in the box she doesnt cover it like most cats do. She gets out of the box and scratches on the bare floor like she is.

Ive tried different litter and then thought that maybe she didnt like litter at all. So I put another box without litter right next to the litter box with litter and she does go in that one alot. I have 2 other cats. Her and her son. They both have always had very weird bathroom habits. Her with her problem and her son will only pee in the toilet. He started that by himself. They both have a fixation with water. She will jump in the tub and if the water is running in the kitchen shes in it too. I took her to the doctor, put her on urinary trac food, put food where shes going on the wall. Help!!

Could be 1 of a few reasons. Have you any other cats, like recently acquried? It could be showing anger at you for bringing in another animal. When my wife and I had a daycare in our home, one of our cats starting peeing everywhere, especially where the kids played the most. Cats can be jealous!
Another reason could be that the litter box is too small. One of my cats will poo on the basement floor a few feet from the boxes....yes boxes - we have 3 set up, and I notice that the biggest one has the most "stuff" in it when I clean them out. Cats like a roomy bathroom same as people.
One other possibility is the cats age. The one I described earlier that misses the box is our oldest cat too. He is going to be 12 this year. I'm not sure if it is because he is losing his wit or what, just throwing that out there. Hope this helps!

Hi,
There are two things that would cause a cat to urinate in places other than the cat box. First, (and most likely) your kitty does not care for the kind of litter you are using. Some cats refuse to use the new crystal type litters, some will not use the pine litter, etc. So try switching the litter. You will also need to move the cat box to a different location, one without the urine scent nearby. If this does not work then you need to take your cat to the vet. Kidney and bladder problems such as infections make cats urinate everywhere but where they are supposed to. Something as simple as an antibiotic may take care of the problem. Take care and good luck w/ kitty. :)

I had the same problem with 2 of my cats. At different times, of course though! Anyway, for some reason, to them I wasn't cleaning out the litter box well enough for them! I started cleaning it of a morning AND of an evening and I changed the litter I was using and it worked like a charm! The litter I switched to is the Special Kitty in the maroon bag that you can get from Wal-Mart. Also, to remove the cat urine odor, the BEST I have found is the Nature's Miracle. You can get it through DrsFosterSmith.com or from Petco! I always keep plenty of it on hand! Get the spray bottle not the powder. Hope I helped some!

You could try getting a litter box with a cover on it, which means that when the cat steps into the box, it can only go on the cover. But I find it a tad bit odd that she scratches the floor, not the box, so maybe try a new litter, or clean the entire box (take it out and hose it off with a touch of soap and water). If this scratching continues with different brands of litter, perhaps you might want to consider talking to your local vet. about it. When I first got my cat, he occasionally peed on the wall, or something of the like, but you have to scold them, and let them know that they are not supposed to do it, with an outdoor cat, put them out for a bit. Maybe you should sit in the room and read or something, and if it does that, scold her right then after she does, not later.

Try spraying the area with a mixture of 1/2 water and 1/2 white vinegar. The smell of the vinegar is supposed to deter the cat. Or, you could try putting another cat litter box in the corner. If your cat sprays on the wall, then stand up a piece of cardboard or plastic between the litter box and the wall. The lid from one of the those plastic totes works well.

Is the litter box large enough? I would suggest finding a large box and placing it in the corner...I have watched a lot of cats scratch the floor around a litter box...I even had one that used to scratch around his food bowl after eating....Not quite sure if that wasn't a comment on the food .

Move her litter box there or put another one there.
My cat does the exact same thing, so we just put a litter box in the corner even though it was right next to her other litter box. Well anyways it worked so there ya go.

A pet psychologist years ago on a talk show answered this question by simply saying, (after you have cleaned the affected spot as best as you can) put the cats food bowl with food right where she goes to the bathroom. Animals usually will not urinate ANYWHERE near their food.
Good luck!

I agree with either putting 2 boxes next to each other or just make the box bigger. Don't forget to get air freshner because I know that stinks! My cat scratches and rubs her *** on our carpet. So weird and I never saw that before. Maybe you should get your cat a scratching post or something to claw on. Just don't forget to
trim your cat's nails cause I know how cats can give you a good scratching... :(
