It's murder... so according to Christian mythology, yes it's a sin.

Committing suicide is not enduring to the end (Matthew 24:13). It is not abiding in Christ (John 15:1-6). It is not continuing in His goodness (Romans 11:22). It is not holding fast the word (1 Corinthians 15:2). It is definitely being moved away from the hope of the gospel (Colossians 1:23). It is not holding fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end (Hebrews 3:6). It is not holding the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end (Hebrews 3:14). It is refusing and turning away from Him who speaks from heaven (Hebrews 12:25). And, it is not overcoming the world (1 John 5:4), but rather being overcome by the world and the devil (1 Peter 5:8; 1 John 5:18).
There are teachings that tell suicide in the sin. This kind of teaching on suicide opens wide the door of death and Hades (Luke 16:19-31; Revelation 20:11-15) to those in despair. All of this speaks directly against Matthew 24:13; John 15:1-6; Romans 11:22; 1 Corinthians 15:2; Colossians 1:23; Hebrews 3:6, 14; 12:25; and 1 John 5:4.
Some might argue, "What about Samson? He committed suicide." Samson's "suicide" was actually an act of war, as he killed three thousand Philistines in his vengeance upon them (Judges 16:28-30). He died in his effort to kill others, as he said, "Let me die with the Philistines!" (Judges 16:30). It was not, as a typical suicide of our day, because of a lack of hope, or a deranged mind. He died with the Philistines to "take vengeance on the Philistines" for his two eyes (Judges 16:28). Plus, this was the only choice he had, to kill them as he did.
Typical suicidal people today are those who have no hope, and they are thus not in Christ (Ephesians 2:12; 1 Peter 1:3; 3:15), or they have been moved away from the hope of the gospel and are thus lost (Colossians 1:21-23). Those with deranged minds, or who "might have a mental breakdown," are those who do not have a sound mind and are therefore not in Christ (Isaiah 26:3; 2 Timothy 1:7). These people will end up in hell if they die in such a state. Such people are not saved.

Yes there is a passage in the bible that refers to this very question but I can't remeber it. I will get back to you tommorrow I must call my pastor to get you the correct answer I don't want to guess. My aunt told me years ago I was around 12 and the man that own the croner store killed himself and she was so distraught. SHe said that God would never forgive him because and I cant remember the passage. Don't kill yourself life is short enough as it is don't make it any shorter. Enjoy the time that you have Love yourself and be thankful for the things that you have. You are already blessed and don't even know it you have access to a computer and know how to use it I know people who would love to be in your shoes.

Suicide? Did it 2002- expired twice for almost 7 minutes each time after plunging a 12 inch knife into and through my left lung (blade came out my back), through the pericardium around my heart, and several more times in my abdomen and lower intestines. One hell of a mess. My shirt and pants were soaked with blood. I was standing up (not well at all) drinking vodka and talking to a State Trooper with the blade sticking out of my chest and blood spurting out about three inches in front of me every time my heart beat. I lost 4 pints of blood and then - darkness. The only thing I remember from that night was seeing brilliant constellations of stars and feeling extremely cold and petrified with fear.
1 Corinthians 3:16-17- "Do you not know that you are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells within you? 17- If any one defiles (destroys) the temple of God, God will destroy him." I don't know what you're going through right now (and you ARE going through something), and I do NOT mean to trivialize whatever it is, but I have just put before you and anyone else reading this, the fact that I don't think I was in Kansas anymore if you get my meaning(I live in Pennsylvania). Whatever it is that you are going through, I get the sense that you are "thinking" about it. It occurred to you that death is inevitable, huh? The very fact that you ask if suicide is a sin tells me that you know that if a person does it, there's no turning back. How can you repent of a sin before God that you plan on carrying out anyway? Listen, I've been in the looney farm several times and rehab as well. All those people that were in there(myself included) had one thing in common: no matter what the behavior, all of it came down to significant needs not being fulfilled in daily life. Are you a man? Then act like one. Do you know who you are and how to satisfy your needs in healthy ways? Then pick yourself up and show people who you are and don't act like a wimp about it. Men and women who face time and chance every day of their lives and clock out at the end of the day knowing they have something or someone to live for and love know they lead purposeful lives. Do you have someone you love and live for? If you don't what's stopping you? Get out of your way. Live!!!

Hello... and oh YES it most certainly is a sin! One of the ten commandments says "Thou shalt not kill"... which goes for your fellow man as well as for yourself! God created you for His glory, for His purpose, and killing yourself is robbing Him of creating your life more fully for His sake. Killing yourself robs your very own self and others of the POTENTIAL that's bound within your being for good, for the betterment of mankind on earth essentially. God is the only one who has the right and qualifications to take a life, aside from that which God gave to those in governing authority to rid the earth of those who've done wrong. The Bible is pro-capital punishment, and God gave man the right and duty to execute it righteously. When they do not, then they are responsible before God! That's why euthansia is wrong, though regrettably folks may want to due to pain. God has alloted you the length of days on this earth, so let Him fulfill them. Now the most important: leaving this life without knowing Jesus Christ and forgiveness of sins by His is to face eternal damnation with no escape friend. So bottom line... don't do it and ask God to reveal Himself to you. Peace!

You take something so beautiful as a human life and destroy it.God has a plan and a purpose for your life.
Killing the life that God gave you is a sin.
But anyone who would kill them self, how sane are they?
God in His great mercy ,knows that some people are so tormented .He will make a way for that soul.
Sin alone will not send us to Hell.
It is the rejection of Jesus Christ, that will send you to hell.

I believe it is a sin, however, I don't believe that suicide is an automatic sentence to hell, the bible says that blasphemy of the holy spirit is the only unforgiven sin. Your body is a temple, according to the Bible, so hurting it in any way I believe would be a sin.

God told Moses somewhere to, '...go to the mountain and die...' To me it wouldn't mean to go to a hospital and slowly dwindle away but it could have been simple physical exertion that did him in or...
Jesus death was coordinated with a particular event 'sour wine' then he may have turned himself off.

Suicide is an act of Greed, one of the seven deadly sins. It is also an act of murder, going against the fifth commandment. Finally, it is an insult to God and His creation. Suicide and homicide may not always be illegal (euthanasia, etc), but they are always immoral and sinful.
It also may prematurely condemn the victim if they have not accepted Christ.
If you are contemplating suicide, regardless of your religious background, please seek help immediately. Not only is your life immensely precious to God, but it is also immensely precious to many people around you.
