Which is worse to think about .........being loaded up with happy gas and getting your teeth fixed in 3-4 hours, or cancelling your appointment, letting your teeth get worse to the point that they have to get extracted and then gumming your food for the rest of your life?

Think outside the box. At the end of the time, it will be over, and you'll get to keep those teeth for the next 50 years.... for sure a good trade off any day... I go for a root canal later in the week... and I too will just think on the other side of the two hours. I don't want a set of false teeth any time soon....
Helpful?

Root canals truely hurt as much as a paper cut when you are given anesthetic. It is just your own thoughts that amplify the amount of pain you feel.
By the way, to have gas is pretty rare. Most dentists don't like using gas.
Listen to an ipod, stare at the TV (if your dentist has a tv system), or daydream. Whatever works for YOU to distract you.

Well! i was scared to go to the dentist but i ended up going and was so happy because i had no more tooth aches and all that.
Lets put it this way, if you do not get the root canals now, your teeth will go brown - most likely fall out. And you'll have a lovely toothless grin :) I'm sure guys won't find that very attractive!!

Well, I am in the middle of going to and fro my endodontist for 3 root canal treatments. I find it ok to go for root canal as my dentist is always asking me whether I am in pain. I was asked to choose between one sitting and 5 sittings for each tooth. I think, the more sittings is better as there will be time to observe and rectify. I would'nt need to open my mouth for long time. Slowly but surely as they say. And I get more and more familiar with the dental environment as I go there more often, and so I get more comfortable with the doctor and the staffs.

Well, let's think it this way. Once your tooth need root canal treatment, it means that that tooth is already non-vital (death). So, you have 2 choices: to have it pulled out, or to have root canal treatment.
But once that tooth is pulled out, you will not going to have another tooth growing out from the gum again replacing that tooth(if that is a permanent tooth, adult tooth).
So, if spending a few dental visits, few hours per visit can save something that if once lost is going to be gone forever, don't you think that it's worth?
Furthermore, there are many consequences after a tooth extraction, eg drifting of the adjacent teeth closing the gap, over eruption of the opposite tooth, decrease function of chewing, giving speech(front teeth) etc..
Don't you think that it is worth to keep the tooth now?

Look around here and see how many people are asking what to do with their killer toothache. Go to the dentist for your root canals so that you will not be asking the same question in a couple of weeks. There's your motivation.

I had my first done in November, it took a bit and wasn't exactly fun, but wasn't really as bad as I thought. Did they tell you it will take that long? I wouldn't think it would be quite that bad.
Just keep telling yourself...you have to get this done. No matter if it's today or another day. So you may as well get it done now and not have to deal with it anymore.
Besides, a tooth that needs it done can get bad pretty quickly, you don't need to wait until you have an abscesses under it or anything... If you do you will end up with bad pain, won't be able to sleep because it will probably make your head hurt bad, and will by dying to get it done.

You don't want to lose those teeth do you? If they are bad
enough for a root canal they won't last long and you will have
to have them pulled. Please don't cancel.

Just call them in the morning and ask if it's possible to sedate you before the procedure.
