hi!! i was born to nonreligious parents, but i have been always honoring those who spend their lives as a devout and love their God. I feel such people are very passionate and i get so moved when i hear the feelings of a Christian towards Christ, it is so pure and selfless.

the only reason my mom says is good to be non religious is that we do not get engrossed in the irrelevant rituals that do not even keep u close to god but rather waste time. my mom tells me its better to love god rather then be religious and get distracted on the way of god, but i don't find any devotion in such ways

Is it possible to love Christ without being a Christian. Does the essence of Christianity revolve around celebrating Christmas, Easter, going to church every sunday, because i really cant do all this
if the basis of christianity is to love christ, can people of other community do this.

The essence of Christianity is not in celebrating festivals or in following rituals. In fact, celebrations such as Christmas and Easter are not even mentioned in the Bible.

Christianity is not a religion - it is a Way of Life. Acts 9:2 refers to the followers as those who belonged to The Way. So Christianity involves following the teachings of the Christ and walking the way he did.

True Christians would also concentrate on a crucial aspect of their worship, where Jesus commanded: "Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded YOU. And, look! I am with YOU all the days until the conclusion of the system of things.” (Matthew 28:19,20)

I would like to address your question in several parts. I am not sure I truly understand your definition of non-religious. It is stated in the Word of God that you are to Love God with all your heart and your neighbor as yourself, (this has been in several answers). It also states that no one comes to the Father except through the Son (Jesus). For you to believe in Jesus you do not need to attend an organized church every Sunday (the apostles did not, nor did the first church in the book of Acts) I know that this is not the most popular view of the masses because they want to have all that glitter and gold, pomp and circumstance. I personally am a member of a small community church but the biggest Church is only a building a man-made object. If we love our church and don't follow the great commision to "Go Ye Therefore" then how we say we love Jesus. If you are walking each day trying to me more like Jesus then you are on the right track. I would suggest trying out a few churches because again it states in the Word of God that we are to fellowship with like minded believers. It give us strength to lean on each other and Jesus for continued growth. There was a point in my own life when I was not in an organized church setting and that was when I took God out of the box I had built for Him and saw that God is God no matter where you are. Even when you are in a homeless shelter or out on the street. He is not located only in your local church. Too many times we get hung up on being in the church and forget about those who need Jesus that aren't in the church. Jesus did not come to heal the well, He came to heal the sick.
"Go Ye Therefore" is an action! Not a passive one.

The very act of loving Christ is the key to Christianity. All you have to do is ask, and Jesus Christ will come into you and give you such a peace that it cannot be described. Just believing in Christ is not the same thing, even the demons believe in Jesus, but they do not KNOW Him or have a relationship with Him.

Honor your parents:

This means to be the best son or daughter that you can. Show them how being religious improves your life, and love them even though they are not at this time religious. They may one day thank you for the example you have shown over weeks, months or even years. Be patient and loving.

Celebrate Christian holidays and events at home with your friends and family if you can.

Especially, do not throw the baby out with the bath water. This means don't discount everything that they say, just because you don't agree on this issue about religion.

Remember Proverbs 15:1 says, "A soft answer turneth away wrath."

What does it mean to love Christ? To think he was a great guy? Well that does not redeem you at all. That is the same as to say, "George Washington was a good guy". It does nothing to help you. The apostles wrote that to be a Christian is to be a slave for God....... Its all a matter of if you want to kneel before God or stand on your own as long as you can. You are totally free to make up your own mind I wont stop you, but I hope you are able to find redemption and righteousness through Christ.

If you belong to Christ, you are a christian and a part of the body of Christ, but that does not mean religion. I believe what your Mom is trying to teach you and relay to you, is not to be Religious, that's a mind set . Religious people turn people away from the basic facts about the word of God and pound in the rules to that facet of believing, attaching a mans or worldly view. To belong to Christ is about relationship and what the Word of God means to us as believers. Its not about what religion we belong to and rituals that religion have adapted. You can love Christ, but belonging to him is what the ultimate goal is accepting his as your savior. No, you don't have to be in church every Sunday, but being there will edify the body and we need to be fed and worshiping him with others, standing on his word for each other and for the world. Christmas is the birth of the anointed one Jesus, not a Christmas tree. Easter is his Resurrection and accession to the right hand of the father...but much more his holy spirit that can now abide in each of us because of it. He bought you for a price and for the world that continues to reject him, that's no big thing for him because no matter what he still loves them, and you. He is prompting your heart for a better understanding of him, so what next? ask him Jesus i don't know you but i want to, reveal yourself to me so i can know you. You dont have to be in church but get with believers that will lead you into the word and that will give you the understanding you need to get started, remember Jesus made a way for you already so he got this covered...if you want it.. he's waiting. God Bless

I am not a christian, but I am telling you this :

When you love Christ, followed his ways to god, believing him to be the only route to god, then in essence you are already a Christian.

The essence of Christianity does not revolved around celebrating, but in remembering Humans (in bible context) are by nature sinful and Christ died on Humans' sake so Humans can go to heaven.

If you truly believed in Christ, then it is impossible for you to become anoter community as Christ has mentioned only through him you go to god and other ways are wrong.

Your mother has a point, however, you can be anything you want to be and still have some faith in a higher power. I am a Christian, but also will remain open to other beliefs, my mother always told me that your heart is your church and that as long as you believe in God, he believes in you.

I believe that you can be a child of God without being a Christian

Of course you dont need to be a christian to love Christ. I myself am not part of the Faith and am very faithful to my own but that does not mean that I dont learn from Christ's teachings. I have gone through the Bible and the Gita side by side and one point I have noted is that the teachings of Christ are no different from that of Krishna and by seeking one you automatically seek the other

The bible says in John 14:15 "If you love me [Jesus] obey my commandments." furthermore in verse 23, Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him." The term Christian literally means a "follower of Christ". Matthew 22:37-39 Jesus replied: " Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.38This is the first and greatest commandment. 39And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself." (NIV)
To answer your question: to have an intimate relationship with christ, (from my experience) I believe that one needs to spend time in prayer and in God's word (the bible). It not about religion or rituals, It is about your personal relationship with CHRIST. It is important to go to church and fellowship with God's people. The bible talks about how people worshipped God together and prayed together. Proverbs 27:17 says, "As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another". In Matthew 18:20 says, "For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst." These scriptures show how important being around God's People is. This is something I will pray about for you.
Nonetheless He also says In Matthew 7:7 "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened."
God is Faithful and hears your prayers!
