We did aluminum tins filled with mini mint nonpareils and tied with a blue organza ribbon. They came out beautifully and everybody loved them, plus it was nice having an "after dinner" mint.
We got the flat 2 oz tins here

The ribbon we purchased at Michaels, and we bought the candy here: http://www.candywarehouse.com/petitemintkiss.html
The tins were easy to make. We washed and thoroughly dried them aheads of time, then cut small squares of waxed paper to line the tins (don't worry if it hangs over the edge - you can tuck it in once you fill the tins, and the weight of the mints will weigh the paper down.
A scoop of mints in each tin, then put the lid on. We tied the ribbon on one test tin to figure out how long to cut the ribbon lengths to make a nice bow, then cut the rest of the ribbon. I recommend organza because it was less slippery than satin ribbon. We used a tiny dot of glue to hold the ribbon in place on the bottom of the tin while we tied it, and we made about 100 in about 2 hours.
This is an example that I used to make mine. http://images1.snapfish.com/3497%3B%3A239%7Ffp47%3Dot%3E2326%3D577%3D6%3A%3C%3DXROQDF%3E2323463%3A43%3A94ot1lsi

Whatever you go with, keep it edible or consumable. No one wants the picture frames, personalized CD's, other wedding knick knacks with your names and wedding dates on them. You can do small bags of candy, M&M's even can do personalized M&M's in your wedding colors--just go to mms.com. I just hate it when I have to throw out some wedding knick knack that we got at a wedding, because I know the bride stressed over buying this favor, and the bride and groom spent their hard earned money on it. If you keep any favor consumable, people will most likely eat it.
Congrats and good luck!

Maybe home made hand dipped truffles in a nice box tied with a ribbon in your wedding colors? You could also buy some beautiful big strawberries and dip them in dark/white chocolate and present it in a box as well. I find the best favors are the edible kind.

Well I like the personalized gifts. A Cd would be nice or a magnet with your picture and wedding date on it. Candy is so common and traditional. I guess I am not such a traditional person. I like to have something I can keep.

Depending on your wedding theme but you can browse the local craft stores for ideas. Don't just look in the wedding section though.
Let me know your wedding themes so I can help you come up with ideas.

we are giving out little satin bags with draw stings with a set of D20s inside for our favors! but of course we are big nerds LOL :D
try to think of something you both enjoy doing together or an event that happened that impacted your relationship together. like maybe an amusement park fun day the two of you had when you first got together that you both look back upon and smile. you could give out little bags of popcorn to symbolize that day and it'll bring back some of those butterfly's you first had for that day when you see your guests open them. something like that. it doesnt matter if your guests get it or not and when they ask youll be happy to explain! :)

We bought ivory candles and some beautiful embossed paper in our colors(black or ivory) and wrapped the candles with the paper and tied it in place with double-faced satin ribbon. so our finished product were the ivory candles wrapped with black paper, which had a wavy design pressed into it, tied with ivory satin ribbon AND ivory candles wrapped with the same paper that was a shimmery ivory tied with ivory ribbon. Everyone took candles home and tells us 3 years later how they used it and that it was the only favor they ever actually used.

I made CD's with our wedding song, brother/sister dance, mother of the bride/groom, a song I dedicated to my husband, one he dedicated to me and 15 other love songs that we liked. I printed out the covers and personalized them, and put them in organza bags with ribbons with our names and wedding date. It was fun and everyone loved it.
