If you have to small of a mouth for all of your teeth to fit once your teeth start moving then they need to take some out to make room for the teeth that are moving to get your overbite corrected. They took one my sons teeth from the side on each side of his mouth when they pulled his.

Your orthodontist with look at your x rays, pano and cephlo along with your arch size, growth pattern and facial structure to determine if there is enough space in your arch to support all of your teeth. If not he will recommend the bi's be removed and more than likely the 3rd molars, or wisdom teeth later. In some cases the orthodontist may use an appliance called a "palatal expander," this enlarges the palate which "increases the size of the arch," allowing the patient to keep the bi's. This will depend on your individual case, the treatment plan that your orthodontist has developed will take this appliance and many other methods into consideration in determining if you are a candidate for this type of treatment, or which will be the best for you. Your orthodontist will do everything he can to help you maintain all of your teeth if possible. The reason for their removal would be to make space for the remaining teeth to be put in their "correct alignment" with the "upper and lower arch" in their "correct position" or "bite." This being how the upper and lower teeth "rest together" or "interlock" with each other when you close. Trust your orthodontist, I'm sure he will help you attain that perfect smile! Hope I've been of some help and good luck with your orthodontic treatment.

Not all people who are getting braces need teeth pulled. If you have a small mouth, then thats a good reason. I had braces years ago & my teeth really needed them but because my mouth was so small & in order for my teeth to become straight, they had to pull 4 of my teeth. It was worth it in the end. Although I had them for 4 years! Now, I get alot of compliments of how straight & nice my teeth look. Hope this helps some!

YOUR ORTHODONTIST MADE A CAREFUL ANALYSIS OF YOUR JAWS AND DETERMINED THAT THERE IS NOT ENOUGH ROOM IF THE FIRST BICUSPIDS STAY IN. THE FIRST BICUSPIDS ARE NOT CRITICAL TO YOUR BITE AS ARE THE MOLARS, ETC.
