In the middle of what? The bridge? Did someone go and pour cement over cats again and bury them inside the bridge?

I'll say 2. That's if 1 cat is on top of the other 1 on both the top of the bridge and below the bridge. That's the only way there could be any cats in the middle.

There are no cats in the middle. There are 2 up top, one on the left and right, and two cats below, one on the left and right. In order for there to be a cat in the middle there would have to be 3 up top and 3 down below. You didn't ask about the middle of the bridge, just 'the middle'.

There are no cats in the middle. There are the two cats at the top and the two shadows of the cats on the bottom, under the bridge. Technically, there are only 2 cats period.
