In the spring, bass are shallow and in backs of coves looking to spawn. Later they will move deeper. Fish points, creek channels that come close to the shore (you'll need a map for this), flats that lead to deep water, outside edge of weed line, docks and any windblown parts of the lake.
Fish the south facing parts of the lake first - that's where the water warms up first. Later, fish anything that blocks the light - docks, weeds, etc.
Lastly look for birds feeding in the water (not ducks, though). They are feeding on baitfish which bigger fish feed on.

Here's a pretty good website for the beginner trout fisherman. It should give you some good tips. I would suggest reading as much information as you can find. Like anything else, if you want to get good at it you need to study and then practice, practice, practice - that's why it's so fun.

If you fish early in the morning, they stay close to the top of the water. At night they move to the deep.

to be elementary, i in basic terms ever use them to be certain temperature and intensity. i'll appear for breaks and channels with them, yet i dont seem for fish with them. so if thats all you like it for, any old affordable used one will paintings, as long because it nevertheless reads temperature and intensity.
