i read them because they are random, and more than 12 kinds so if GOD were to give me a message then it would be more unique than just a dozen paragraphs. and in revelations it talks about an angel giving john a `message that taste good on his tongue but bitter in his stomach` or something like that.

What do you mean "why do Christians read them?" It isn't the law of any Christian churches that say they have to read and accept fortune cookies.
If one Christian, while at a Chinese buffet, decides to open a fortune cookie and joke about the saying inside - it isn't a sin. I don't think anyone takes the fortune cookies seriously anyway.

Because some Christians are ignorant of spiritual things, and that may be dangerous, sometimes.
We should be very careful. On the other hand, the intention is also important, since what is in our heart is important. We don't have to look for demons under every rock, if you know what I mean.

Learning about other peoples culture is not a sin. Obviously you can read a fortune cookie for amusement, if you believed what it said that would fall into what you are trying to portray.

because fortune cookies are just fun! just like horoscopes are just fun. the bible is saying to beware not to take them seriously and believe in them...i just think they're fun and i dont actually believe that these things will or won't happen to me. i think that's the approach that most other christians have too.

-----I read somewhere that at first, Chinese fortune cookies had both good and bad fortunes. But then an Emperor got a cookie with a bad fortune; that made him so mad, he ordered the writer's head chopped off. After that, all the fortunes in the fortune cookies were **good** fortunes. ---Jim

my dear friend, even the pope claims true Christianity and godly inspiration. however, in the bible, Jehovah strictly forbids worshiping anyone or anything, in any form! yet the pope and millions of others worship Jesus and Mary, Jesus' mother. even the so called reformists call upon jesus' name and worship him, directing their prayers to Jesus.
to underscore a point here, it would be worthwhile to mention that Jesus never claimed that worship be directed to him. in fact, when he was baptized by john, and came out of the Jordan river, he prayed to Jehovah and told him that he (Jesus) was on earth as his son to do his (Jehovah's) will.
is it clear to you that misinterpretation of the verses in the holy scriptures has created the world we have to endure and thrive in? and no, it is not true Christians who are accepting fortune cookies to dictate their lives. such so-called Christians are in fact, distorters of the truth, hiding the true religion where it deserves true exposure. this is even stressed by your phrase 'supposed to know spiritual things'.
i hope this explains.

For one thing, they are fun. While some Christians have their obnoxious, sometimes hypocritical habits, this isn't really one of them because few people take fortune cookies seriously.

I just went to a chinese restaurant yesterday and read it lol. I dont know, cause I HATE the cookies, I gave it away. I think its funny how vague they are, and how untrue, I think people read them mostly for entertainment value, not for a fortune...

Fortune cookies and horoscopes are just for fun. They are not real and they are so generealized they can mean anything. I read the fortunes but again they are for fun anyway. Besides God gave the gift of prophecy to man. It says in 1 Corinthians 12:1-11. Here is the passage
1 Corinthians 12
1Now about spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be ignorant. 2You know that when you were pagans, somehow or other you were influenced and led astray to mute idols. 3Therefore I tell you that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus be cursed," and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit.
4There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men.
7Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. 8To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, 9to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues,[a] and to still another the interpretation of tongues.[b] 11All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines.
