I just got him a few days ago from a friend. He's six weeks old. I noticed the first night he pooped, he mewed and seemed to be straining. I also noticed a black raised dot on his anus, above the actual hole. Today, there appears to be more around this. Is something wrong with him? I'm terribly worried. Help please?

Thanks so much to everyone. I was told cats had to be SIX weeks to be away from their mum. He is weaned though. Hopefully it is constipation but i have an appointment set up. Thank you so much.

he should not have left mum yet. they should be eight weeks at least before leaving mum. make sure you are feeding the same food as when he was with mum and give him some kitten milk he maynot be drinking water and be constipated. 1 suggestion is this if you have a can of tuna in oil give him a little mixed with some kibble. don't worry about the black dots near the anus he will clean them up by himself. if he is grooming for himself. if he is not get a damp clothe that is body temp and wipe him all over petsmart actually do a pet safe wipe for grooming. he should be vet checked as he has left mum so early, he may need to be wormed and de fleaed. make sure that where he sleeps is warm and has a teddy for company and a heat pad or hot water bottle swathed in a towel to keep him warm and a ticking clock this will help him adjust to being away from mum and litter mates. and good luck

Make sure he is wormed and de flead, are you feeding him kitten food and kitten milk or plain water? He may not be ready for adult cat food yet and this would cause him discomfort when going to the toilet. Also do not give him cows milk as this is NOT good for cats especially kittens. Keep an eye on him and if he is still having problems in a couple of days then give your vet a call and they will tell you if he needs a consultation or not. It is probably nothing more than a bit of constipation which is easily remedied by changing his diet.

He really should still be with his mum. This may have nothing to do with it, but if i was you i would take him/her to the vets to get it checked out. Good luck and enjoy your little kitty!!!!!
