I was recently prescribed Xanax to treat anxiety related to law school. I was given 1 mg tablets, to be broken into halves and taken. I have a very important oral argument in a couple of days, and I am worried about taking too large a dose. I need to be very alert and able to respond to the judge's questioning. I am a nervous wreck when it comes to these things. Do any of you suggest maybe lowering the dosage to maybe .25 for that particular day. I need mental clarity, but I want to be without the trembling and nervous fidgiting. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I would talk to your doctor or pharmacist about this.

Forget the Xanax. I too suffer from nervous anxiety when I am under stress. In all seriousness, take a huge swig of alcohol half hour before and you'll settle your nerves and feel confident. Don't always do this, just pass the bloody test and then go on as normal. Xanax is for long term use for general suffers of nervous disorders. You, it seems only get nervous when under stress, like an exam. A shot of brandy will do the trick. But Just This Once!
Also, practise your oral argument, practise non-stop with friends and family so its gets easier and more fluent. Good luck!

I think Xanax is overrated, but if you really get that much of an effect on 1/2 a dose, then by all means split it again. I'm just surprised you feel anything. I have to take at least three to help me sleep. On top of other stuff.

I had anxiety when I bombed my LSAT and was debating whether or not I should retake the test. To me, dealing with anxiety was a mental thing. I realized that law school was not worth all the stress that negatively affected my health. So, I am taking everything as easy as I can. My first year of law school is starting this fall.

I have to agree with the one about alcohol. I used to do 2-3 shots of vodka (less smell) before such events and also before interviews. I always got the job and the answers just flowed. I have panic disorder and this is sure fire.

I take Xanax now and it doesn't work as well as vodka. I take xanax before flying and I drink.

Good luck...it's torture.

In standard drug urinalysis Xanax is not a common drug that is looked for, however on an extended drug test you will test positive for the drug. Detection times is listed below. Benzodiazepines 3-7 days Being as though you will be getting a prescription for the drug just explain and when you get the script present to the proper representative to avoid problems. Good Luck.

xanax is one of the most abused benzodiazapines.i would do my research on it,i use klonopin and paxil.i'm very sensitive to chemicals so i get all the worst side-effects and for xanax it was a psychotic break like no other!hallucinations,paranoia,supersonic- hearing, inability to know if i was dreaming or if it was the real thing and then some.....since one of my greatest fears in life was losing my ability to think i lost that one BIG time!i even told the nurses in the emergency room that i wanted a DNR order because i didn't want to keep seeing, doing, and hearing so many freaky things.i hope you can tell i have my wits returned(or not)by my hopefully help-full suggestions.

Try taking a half-dose a couple of days BEFORE your oral argument to see if that much medication will have the desired effect. Never try something new with your medication on an important day, especially if it's medication for anxiety. No need to add more problems into the anxious-pile.

Good luck.

.25 could take the edge off. Am guessing that you already know that Xanax is addictive (withdrawl from benzodiazapines is very unpleasant).
Dont take it any longer than you have to and once you start increasing the dose you will need to keep increasing it.
Be careful with it. NOT joking

i used to take xanax. if you think you would do better taking a quarter take a quarter one.. or maybe take a quarter one sometime before that day and see if you are more alert. see what happens. i'd keep with the half dose personally. i would rather be as relaxed as possible than being as alert as possible it's not like ur gonna zone out or fall asleep.

Wow Xanex?

For me it's more of a "reset button".. as Dane Cook said, if you've had a bad day, just pop a Xanex and you'll wake up the next mornig wondering what happened.. I took one and somehow the cat ended up outside, I didn't remember anything about the night before, but the cat was missing. I won't ever take it again lol
