IMMUNIZATIONS: Under the International Health Regulations adopted by the World Health Organization, a country may require International Certificates of Vaccination against yellow fever, especially if you are traveling from an area of the world that is infected with yellow fever. Prophylactic medication for malaria and certain other preventive measures are advisable for travel to some countries. No immunizations are required to return to the United States. Detailed health information may be obtained from your local healthcare provider or by contacting the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, telephone 1-877- 394-8747 or Internet:www.cdc.gov.

You'll be a bag of vaccine if you get all the shots they recommend you getting. But do get Hepatitis A and B to be on the safe side as food and water born illness is actually a real risk in that region.

Don't know about Taiwan, but as for China there are no required shots. However, it is HIGHLY recommended that you get a hep a and b vaccine as hepatitis is rampant there and the hygene isn't always so great w/the locals... disease can spread...

you don't need anything particular. big cities, small town: China is a safe world. at the border, the authorities will ask you if you have SARS or poultry fever.
I'm living in China since 2002 and i never had any kind of problems like big diseases. be safe in sex, and avoid fish in Taipei.
