Because the Mosaic Law, particularly the 10 Commandments, enables a sinner to see just how far he or she has been distanced from God due to sin. I think Ray Comfort, a Messianic Jew, explains the use of the Law very eloquently:
"...telling you precisely what you've done wrong FIRST actually makes the Good News make sense. If I don't clearly bring instruction and understanding that you've violated the Law, then the Good News will seem foolishness; it will seem offensive. But once you understand that you've broken the Law, then that Good News will become Good News indeed."
I urge everyone to read Ray's inspiring and highly instructional teaching, called "Hell's Best Secret," which may be found here:
http://www.livingwaters.com/helps/HellsBestKeptSecret.pdf
Ray also offers another teaching, called "How to Effectively Use the Law: The RCCR Principle of Witnessing:" http://www.livingwaters.com/helps/HowToEffectivelyUseTheLaw.doc
I hope these resources are a blessing to you, as they have been to me.

The commandments were given to Moses to help give the Jews laws to follow during their trip out of Egypt. Moses was having difficulty governing the people without written Laws to follow. In John 1:1 The "Word" is Jesus. Jesus was the word of God in the flesh come to give us a new way to atone for our sins in the final and perfect sacrifice of a pure offering. His teachings are what we are to model and the old ways are the ways of the past. Jesus never taught to not hold up the old law however but he taught us how to love and treat one another. We now have two lows to follow.Mathew 23:37-39 Mathew 19:19 also lists some from the old testament.

the gospels expressly demonstrate and show us that god is perfect and that god is love. the 10 commandments basically amount to the 2 commandments that jesus gave when he was asked what is the greatest commandment
1-love the lord your god with all of your soul all of your heart.....(i don't have the exact wording handy)
2-love your neighbour as you love yourself
these 2 sum up the 10 in a perfect way. jesus perfected the old law with the new and in doing so showed us through the gospel that god is love,in keeping his commands we can take part in this perfect love.
hope this helps,god bless.

Jesus took a man through several comms.to see where the mans heart was. A man needs to see that God has laws and He Is coming back to judge.Oh that we could get people to see that we do not hate them but want to have them see their need for a savior. Essential to proclaiming the Gospel.

It gave the preachers reason and excellent means to instill/introduce guilt, esp. the part that commands about not worshipping any other God other than the one mentioned in the Bible.
Once successful in making sure the listeners are aware of how guilty they should be, they introduce the idea of salvation and forgiveness of sins - this part is for winning converts.
The result depends on who the listeners are/were.

Romans
The law:
don't worship idols
don't use Gods name in vain
don't steal
don't covet
don't murder
don't bear false witness against someone
honor parents
no adultery
look up others
Pick those you have done:
The wages of sin is death (breaking God's Law) but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
One sin and you fall short of prefection.
The only solution is Jesus:
Romans 10

They don't really have much to do with Proclaiming the Gospel. A subtle connection, if thats what you're looking for, may be where Jesus said he did not come to abolish the law but to fulfil it. But then we have to understand just exactly what does this really mean.

They show us how much we NEED someone to come and save us. If I were to look at one of them to see if I followed it perfectly, I would totally realize my need for a savior to forgive me of my sins.
“Cursed is everyone who does not continue in all things which are written in the book of the law, to do them.” Deuteronomy 27:26
I am cursed (and anyone not following them all perfectly)... BUT
“Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”
Deuteronomy 21:23
Someone took that curse from me!!

None.
"By grace you are saved through faith; it is not of yourselves, but it is the gift of God, and not of works, lest any man should boast..."
