Tabby is a female cat and is 11years old.My cat was overweight about 6 months ago. She was put on perscription diet food by the vet. She lost weight and was back to a healthy weight. She always had some kind of snoring problem or congestion in her nose. Recently, she passed away. Luckily I wasn't there to see what happened. My brother saw it and said she might have had a heart attack and died instantly. Is there some kind of diagnosis or treatment that I could have prevented?.... I just cant get over it.

I seriously doubt she could have been treated for anything. Eleven years is an average life span for a cat.
But she could have had congestive heart failure if she snored or was congested.
Sometimes their gums and tongue turns blue and they breathe heavy for a while with that. It's an elderly diagnosis for a cat.
I know I would have a very difficult time with the death of my kitties but rest assured you gave her a good home and loved her and that's more than most cats get.

Oh, by the way, I have a female that snores and she's not overweight at all. She has always snored and she's only 4 yrs old. I think like people, some cats snore, some don't.

My cat snores all the time. Sometimes it's worse than others. It seems to have really been noticeable the last 5 years or so (he's 13), but it doesn't affect him at all.

Sure, it's possible that it was a nasal tumor or asthma or something like that, but if there weren't really any other symptoms, then it was probably nothing. It could have been because of winter (drier air), a new fabric softener, or the factory 100 miles upwind of you needed to change it's filters. It's even possible that his nasal cavities were dried out with the food change.

I'm very sorry for your loss, but there was probably nothing further that you could have done.

You sound like you loved your kitty very much. Try not to feel guilty over her death. If she passed so quickly, it sounded like she had a heart attack, and there is absolutely nothing you could have done. Try to remember all the good years you had with her and not dwell on what you might have done. She had 11 good years with you, and that is the important thing! If she had not been diagnosed properly, and had been to the vet, that would probably be the fault of the vet. You should not feel guilty. You should just remember the happy times you spent with her. I am sorry for your loss. Maybe it's time for a new kitty, if you are up to it.

Almost all cats snore, I don't think you missed anything there with your cat. My cats snore so loud they keep me awake at times. I wonder who is worse, my husband or the cats. The noises that come out of thi bed are amazing. I have had a lot of cats in my life and they have all snored, snorted, talked, ran, pushed, etc. I really don't think you did anything wrong. Your cat was sick, there just was nothing you could have done, don't beat yourself up, it won't make you feel any better or do anything for the dead cat.
