Yes.
The locker is property of the school not of the student. Therefore, the school owns it. No debate there at all.
The car situation is a little more "iffy" but if it is parked on school property, I'd have to also say yes. The school has the right to control what is brought onto the campus.
However, in fairness (although I don't know that it's necessary), it must be made clear IN ADVANCE that these searches can (and will) be made. Therefore, if a student is stupid enough to bring forbidden items on campus, then they will get caught.

Sure they should, if your not doing anything illegal then you should'nt have anything to hide, but I know you'll say thats against our civil rights, which is true to a point, then if they say no to searching locker, and a student brings in a weapon and kills another person, then those same people will say, why haven't you kept our schools safe. Get a grip, You can't have your cake and eat it too. Personally I think all students should wear uniforms, no backpacks, and at anytime someone is caught bullying then they should be expelled with no possible chance of coming back. If children feel safe then there will be less violence. The reason most violence occurs is because the bullied feel there is not help and they feel desperate. When you talk about civil rights, how about the right to feel safe and free of harassment.

Yes, schools should have the authority to search lockers and such on school grounds. Not only for security but also for school safety. And, if you are not involved in questionable activity what would you care. As a student you are not a contributing member to society as of yet, you are learning how to act responsibly within our society, with a skill that will contribute to the good of all, so if you can't even act correct while in school why should you be considered trustworthy out of school. while on campus as while in the U.S. we reserve the right to ensure that all rules and regulations are adhered to...like it or not...

Yes. If said childs locker could possibly hide a weapon then by all means search the dang locker, don't wait on a permission slip to be signed.
I mean, its not like your parents searching the locker, if your principle found condoms, he wouldn't care.

I wouldn't be crazy about someone searching my things but I guess I'd have to say it is their right. It's a safety thing now. I would hope the school would let the students know of their policy when they do orientation so nobody is surprised by this. They find weapons, drugs etc. so they have to do it to protect the majority of good kids.

School authorities should not, but police should be. I think that would be oversteeping their bounds, and make them liable for any problems that occured as a result of that search. That could be detrimental to other students who are depending on the school for their education, which would be unfair. Police are entitled to do that kind of thing, and should be. Campus police count as police, not school authorities.

I think the locker should be considered private property of the student... just like in real life they should require a search warrant. to many people have given up their rights that's why we now live in a very oppressed society.... governments are limiting our right everywhere. the line that if you have nothing to hide is no excuse... we have given up way to many rights on that line alone. if I have nothing to hide then you won't be able to get a search warrant. Leave MY PRIVACY AND RIGHTS ALONE.

When you enter a private property such as a school and you technically "rent" the locker space, yes they have a right to search without warning, if you choose to break the rules and take a chance on illegal activity you deserve to be caught and punished by due process whatever that may be for your school- hopefully its fairly severe so as to deter any future criminal activity.
