The best way to speed up your metabolism is cardiovascular exercise. Get your heart pumping good and hard for at least 20 minutes in the morning, and your metabolism will be up all day.

There are natural ways for you to boost your metabolism and things you can take (both scienfically proven and not).
If you eat smaller meals and more meals a day, your body will know you are getting good and won't store any as fat, and your metabolism will also increase.
If you work out, specifically weight training (light or heavy) the tearing of muscles and rebuilding of muscles will increase your metabolism.
You can also drink green tea or pills like Hydroxycut those also increase your metabolism. However in the end the best thing to do is eat healthy and workout, you're not going to lose weight by sitting there all day.
I doubt iced coffee drinks at Starbucks will increase your metabolism. Also I use these techniques for cutting during weight training...so I can't really tell you how much weight I lost. But 1lb a week is about right...losing anymore than 2 lbs a week is VERY unhealthy and dangerous.

Coffee isn't a good way to speed up your metabolism. If you truly want to speed it up, eat multiple small meals a day. Every couple of hours...not big meals, but maybe yoghurt and then vegies, and then lunch etc....but space them out....your body will naturally speed itself up to digest these mini-meals....You will also most likely spend more calories breaking down the food then you take in if you choose your foods wisely. You should be able to safely lose about 10 pounds a month doing it this way.

Metabolism= the rate at which energy is burned by a living body....
Fat cells don't burn energy as fast as muscle cells...
So if you exercize with the intent to build muscle...
a) the exercizing will burn energy
b) the newly created muscle cells will continue to burn energy, even when you're not formally exercizing... THIS is the speeding up of the metabolism.
I really think that weight issues more often a symptom of a deeper issue... lifestyle (low activity level), nutrition/diet, hormone issues (thyroid, diabetes?)...
If you are really serious about loosing the extra fat, talk to your doctor. Tell him what you want to do, your goals, what you are willing to do, etc. There's usually something the doctor can do to help.
Best of luck!

Eat the same amount you do now, but broken into 6 meals instead of 3...the weight will come off.
