I spent four years in a serious relationship and then it just ended. Since then even though he maintains we should be friends, he is cold and indifferent and mean. Why can't men be more honest about what they want. And why does it matter. I don't love him anymore but is asking or expecting respect a bad thing. To make matters worse we are in the same work place

In my opinion, you already found your answer. Question is, did you like the answer? If you are over him, then his opinion really shouldn't matter to you anymore. Doesn't mean that if you do have feelings that it doesn't hurt, but obviously, there's a reason you are no longer in love with him. Answer yourself as to what that reason is, and you're more likely to learn from the past and not still look for the answer. Good luck!
