Has the problem been getting worse over time? If so, see a doctor or neurologist as soon as possible! Get it diagnosed and treated before it gets serious. I am not a doctor but possible causes of memory loss can result from substance abuse, brain tumor, stress, medication side effect, or frequent incidence of head injury. GET IT CHECKED OUT BY A DOCTOR NOW!!!!

The first thing to do is relax and not worry. Worry makes nearly everyone's memory worse.
For sure see a doctor to rule out the bad stuff. It is probably not anything bad, but if it is, the earlier you get treated the better.
There are SO many things, and combo's of things that relate to memory issues:
You may need vitamins such as the B complex group
Menopause is notorious for temporary memory problems
Stress came make some people very memory deficient
Lack of sleep on an ongoing basis
Certain medications can hurt your memory
People who start to doubt their memory often become hyper watchful and credit every little thing to bad memory. So be careful to cut yourself some slack. All of us are forgetful at times.

This could be a mental health issue or it could also be organic--get to a medical doctor for a complete physical IMMEDIATELY to eliminate the possibility it is organic. If it isn't, see a mental health professional.
One of the most common reasons for forgetfulness is stress but it is not the only reason. A professional will be able to give you tests, etc and tell you a bit better than anyone here can. Including me!

If it is happening to your family as well, perhaps you can check on the water supply or the food which you and your family share. That's the only common thing among your family members.

see a Dr to have an x-ray to make sure nothing is wrong inside the skull=if this turns out OK then see a psychiatrist to get help
it could be meds that you may be taking that are causing this too
