After undergraduate college and medical school (4 years each, unless you do combine undergrad and med school, which may be 6-8 years total depending on the program), post-grad training in the U.S. involves internship/residency in Internal Medicine which takes 3 years. You may then do sub-specialty fellowship training in hematology. There are programs where you can do 2 years and just get board-certified in only hematology, but most programs are combine hematology and oncology, which takes 3 years to complete.
