As your body gets used to a rep range, number of sets or a given weight, you'll feel less soreness. It's the body adapting over time. This is why you want to try to constantly beat your reps, weight or sets. It keeps the body guessing ... and growing.

This is also why you want to keep a journal. You need to always improve, which means knowing how your performed in your last workout, so you can beat it in this workout.

Your body will also adapt to exercises you are regularly performing, so sometimes it's just a matter of rotating in a new exercise or a variation on an existing exercise. For, example, instead of normal push-ups, go very wide with the positioning of your arms or put your hands close together in a diamond -- you'll find that it works your chest and back muscles differently than the standard push-up you are performing. Same thing goes for squats, which can be perfomed wide leg (sumo) or narrow leg.

Also, there are things you can do within existing rep, weight and set ranges to keep your muscles challenged. For example, reduce rest periods between sets (this will usually mean that you can't perform as many reps as you do with longer rest periods) or slow down the actual pace of each rep. You can also emphasize the "negative" portion of the rep, which is the portion of the exercise when you are "lowering " the weight. So, for instance, if you are doing push-ups, go much more slowly when you descend to the floor than usual. Or if you are doing bicep curls, try to resist the weight as you lower it, performing it at half the speed you normally use.

You will actually be amazed at how sore your muscles can feels just by varying how you perform the exercise or by doing negatives.

Best of luck, Deluxe.

the body gets used to working out pretty quickly. Try increasing your weight and maxing out your reps. When you're exercising your bicepts, try 3 sets of 3 different excercises that concentrate on your bi's. On the last rep of each set, do it until you can't possibly do 1 more.. You will most likely be sore for a few days afterward. Do this for each of your main body parts once or twice a week.

Time to up the weight/reps. Try 5 sets of 12 reps with 25 lbs. More importantlly, don't just work on your guns and upper body. If you want to get really nice and sore, DO SOME SQUATS!!!!

Your body is getting used to the routine. You need to switch up the routine and keep your body guessing. Increase the weight but keep low reps to gain muscle mass or try lower weights with higher reps to tone muscle.

Your body is probably getting used to the routine. It's not bad--you're just not hurting your body as much as when you first started.
