Can't hurt, might help. But in my experience, the best thing OTC is Abreva. There is a prescription that works well--Avaclair? (something like that)

Yes. it will help speed up the process. Cold sores are caused by herpes simplex. once you have herpes virus it is in your body forever. The littlest thing could cause a break out. The best thing I have found is Abreva. It is expensive but its worth it if you are in some pain.

Yes absolutely. Though I must warn you I'm a bit partial, my husband swears I'm addicted to the stuff. I keep a tube or little jar in my car, purse, on top of t.v, and in my backpack.

I think Camphophenique works best, but that's my opinion...
I've also used ice cubes and hydrogen peroxide (when I didn't have any creams available to use)
