I am not sure what route the first poster took. I drove it in about 8.5 hours. It all depends on what day you travel and the time of day. Also, I speed.

As an alternative to driving between those areas I would suggest using Amtrak which provides a nice thruway bus connection to Redding from trains in Sacramento coming up from LA. The cost is reasonable and it's a nice ride!

Its at least 10 hours from Redding to LA....w/o many rest stops...It would be more like 12-14 hours for San Diego.

You have to figure in reststops and traffic slowdowns. I think 12 hours is a very conservative estimate.

approx. 12 hrs or more depending on traffic, when you go thru the LA area on hwy 5...

it is a good 12 hr drive by car and thats with little or no problems....
