My dog's face has been swollen off and on for about a month now. I went to the vet but she couldnt find anything wrong with him , she gave him antibiotics but his swelling returned a few days after. The dog has swelling on both sides of his face and around his neck but its off and on, sometimes you can't see it at all. He seems to have no pain or need to itch because of it and acts as if there is nothing wrong. Has anyone experienced this problem with their pets or have any knowledge of such a situation? Please help as soon as possible....Thank YOu

It sounds like an allergic reaction. Allergic reactions can be contact, inhaled, or food based. Often the symptoms are the same and can be hard to track down. It is good you have seen a vet about this.
At this point I'd suggest keeping notes on when the reaction occurs such as:
time of day
after which activities
are the people around him wearing perfumes, hair products
after which foods
has he been on a walk
how long the swelling lasts
Keep very detailed notes, and include things that don't seem important. They might be in the future.

Then I would try some temporary elimination tests. Slowly change his food to a different protein source, and take out all grains. A food like Varieties Raw Instinct does not have grain, and there are other good ones too. It often takes a long time to see the results, but it is worth the effort.

Also look around your house for any new carpets or upholstered items that arrived around the time the swelling started. Dogs are often allergy to flame retardants etc.

Dust mites are a major allergy for dogs.

The list is long. But if you start to track his behavior, and make a few adjustments you may find the culprit before the allergy becomes more bothersome.
Good luck

i once had an english bulldog with MANY problems...he stayed on antibiotics for his bad skin irritations and his lips would swell to the point that they would turn inside out...turns out he also had bad allergies and was allergic to something inside of my house. there are tests that can be ran but unfortunately i already had so much invested in this dog(with the surgeries on his eyes and nose..and don't forget the antibiotics)that i didn't want to have the test ran...we gave him benadryl which seemed to solve the problem everytime..hopefully this helps!!!!

what kind of foods do you feed him? if you havent been watching the news lately, they say the dog/cat foods have some seriously health proeblems with pets, but not all of them. well i suggest you go to the vet again and seek help as soon as possible. i know it will require you probably money and taking your time to take it to the vet, but your dogs health is important.
