My female dog was in heat and there was a male dog around while she was outside. He managed to get on her leg but I never actually saw him get in the right spot that I know of. Since their few encounters together he has not come back and she has stopped bleeding. Is that a sign that she could be pregnant?

No it's not a sign that she's pregnant. If her vulva and nipples stay enlarged that may be a sign. Start counting from the day she had the encounter with the male dog, if she is pregnant around day 35 your vet should be able to feel puppies and day 63 will be the due date.

well im not sure about the bleeding.. but my dog was pregnant and after like a week her nipples started getting hard and her stomach was getting hard.. we took her to the vet and he said she was pregnant and then we had to make a bed for the dog to have her puppies.. so i'd say wait it out and take her to the vet... good luck =)

she most likely just stopped her heat cycle. but just in case look for enlargment of the nipples about a month from now. and swelling in the abdomen. also look for a change in eating pattern. if she doesnt show any of these signs...shes not pregnant.

Shame on you for allowing this to happen and not facing that you are responsible for all the activities of your pet.

You say he only got "on her leg" but you "never actually saw him get in the right spot" but then you mention a "few encounters". If you knew this was happening why didn't you stop it???

It is pet owners like you that cause hundreds of thousands of animals to needlessly suffer and be put to death every year because they are unwanted.

SHAME - SHAME - SHAME ON YOU. If you can't be responsible for your pets DON'T HAVE THEM.

you need to get progestrone tests done by the vet. if not then she may still be on heat, if you want to avoid puppies then she can be speyed when pregnant anyway. pregnancy lasts about 65 days.
